Ok, guess we'll wait a few weeks. Anyone know how the fishing is on burnt/fallen timber? I heard there are some Browns there. What about Ram river?

Anyone ever been up to Pierre Grey's Lakes north of Hinton, closer to Grande Cache? Growing up we would take a week every year at the end of June and head up there with the canoe for a week of fishing and camping. So many great memories from that spot. Mostly rainbow trout in the lake we fished but some other varieties in the surrounding lakes as well.

Ruttiger, I have never been up there but it sounds nice!
This is the painful time of year waiting for the streams to open up. I guess we will be heading up north for some fishing adventures until June.
Do you guys have any suggestions on fishing kayaks? We are interested in getting a sit on top style but wouldn't mind some feedback from those of you who have used them.

The Ram is supposed to be awesome for Bulls. I think every year for the past 4-5 troutman and I have talked about going there at least in passing. We've never made it though, so it's not fished out!

I fished the north ram last summer; got into some big cutties. I don't think the north or south Ram open until mid June though.

I'll echo Slava, the Ram river is as good as it gets for bully's in the province. Excellent river for sportfishing.

It's funny, because if you talk to the old timers who fished the headwaters in this province, all they ever caught were bully's and nothing but pigs. Such an aggressive species, I'm proud we have the conservation measures set up that we do to ensure future generations can enjoy the thrill of a hungry bull on the end of a line.

I've never had much luck at burnt/fallen timber. I don't think I've even seen a fish there. There must be some browns there though.
I have had good success in a creek not far from there, NW of Cochrane. I'm reluctant to name it, but will show it to you on a CP outing.
For bulls, I hear the Panther River is very good, downstream of Banff NP.

Chain lakes today. Beautiful, not windy and we caught a couple little rainbows. No keepers though, all under 10".
We will try our luck first thing in the morning and hopefully have better luck. It is a bit cold but the sun helps a lot.
Definitely worth it and the best part, nobody is here.

So we went out again today and caught about 12 rainbows, no Bulls. Released most of them but kept a couple that were 13". Tasty little afternoon snack.
We saw a few people catching their limit and taking some little guys, like 8 or 9".
Anyway, we had a fun day and it is marvelous weather!

Picked this guy up in August last year. 39 pounds. Just enjoyed eating 1/4 of him last night.

I do, and I've fished along the creek itself when it's open for a quick fish in the evening. Its not too bad. Down close to the confluence with the Bow there are supposed to be some big trout, but I never really wind up that far East on it.
