While I can somewhat agree, it's also worth mentioning that also has the potential to go horribly wrong.  If the pastry is too dry, it ruins it.

Chocolate pie and pumpkin pie are both better, imo.
 
If the lemon is too sour - or too bland - or if the meringue is too marshmallowy, then lemon meringue pie sucks.
