Yes to the former, no to the latter.

Yes. The Buffalo game looked like an Oilers game.

Agreed. People are way too hard on JoeyC. Yeah he is prone to brain farts but he's the perfect third/fourth liner and the man plays very well in that role IMO.

I don't like Colborne in

-a checking role
-a top 6 role
-a power play role
-a penalty kill role.

however i can live with him in a 3rd line scoring role. But only that. His lack of versatility, yet his usage as if he's versatile, is frustrating. Mason Raymond is more versatile.

Just watched the highlights.

Bob Cole completely killed the game for me.

Colborne is a tricky guy because he leaves you wanting more. You see the size. You see tastes of the skill and you wonder why he can't be more than a bottom 6 forward.
I chalk it up to hockey sense, or lack thereof.
But at this point he is what he is - and that's not a bad player. He isn't an impact on most nights, but he isn't paid like one.
For what he brings, and what he's paid - I'm fine with him on this team.

False. Raymond is competent at zero roles on this team.

I wasn't a Mason Raymond hater, but no. Colborne is way more versatile. Raymond could only score, and only do that on the fly for the most part. Colborne scores as much, can play a forecheck role, can take faceoffs, and is better defensively.

for the record, that last time the Flames picked between 7th and 10th was 2003 (Phaneuf 9th)

Tried to watch the game at work. Seemed every time the Flames scored I was caught up but from what I saw they looked very good.

Ortio was good again. A few more starts like this and he might have a stat line that looks acceptable. I'm starting to think he has the talent.

This is a horrible idea. Bennett will develop into a terrific player because he is a terrific player regardless of who he plays with.

I know everyone is reading this in Coles voice, but you really need to do it in Shatners!

Good grief I hope Treliving can find some sucker to take Stajan from us.

I mean, by all accounts he's a great guy but that contract is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E for this team moving forward. I get that when it was signed the Flames center depth was non-existent but now? Yikes.

With Monahan's (21) extension this year, then Bennett (19) next year, plus having Backlund (26)...

Having over $3 million tied up in a soft, 30+ year old 4th line center who isn't very good at face-offs for two more seasons after this one is a real clusterf***.

They actually might have to just buy him out to be honest.

Agreed.

He is also money in the shootout, 3 for 3 this year. This shouldn't be underestimated, as it directly leads to points in the standings. For under 1.275 Million, he is a great deal. So far he has 11 goals and 26 points, those are good numbers for a third liner in this league.

Of course he leaves you wanting more at times, but most third liners do.
