To everyone worried about the losing culture, I for one am not worried about that at all.

Let's not forget that this is Gaudreau's second season with the Flames, in the first full season he was with the Flames they got into the second round of the playoffs when everyone wrote them off. I think it was fantastic we got into the playoffs last year, not just because I like to see them win, but it shows these kids early what it takes to win it all. I'm sure facing a jerk like Perry for 5 games gave them tons of experience. Our core in Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Brodie, and Hamilton are still very young and they have all played in the playoffs unlike the core up in Edmonton.

Sucks to be losing, but honestly with the way things are, we still have lots of time to develop our core and the Flames will be having a very nice addition to their prospect base after this year's draft. I'm not concerned at all.

Hmm.... At this rate neither Gio or Brodie will be getting a call to play in the Worlds

Good.

Don't need them blocking shots and battling through a grueling schedule for a nothing tournament right before the season starts.

It would be good if they both went (Hamilton too). Anyone saying different is sour grapes IMO

A tournament with all the best players in the world.... Their game will be elevated to start the year, could make for a spectacular season.

And I hope in my long long lifetime I never see the Flames as the worst team in the NHL, standings wise.

Hiller can't be blamed. This team looks like it's given up, and going to get ugly. I have my doubts whether Hartley and his ultraquiet staff have any solutions for the rest of the year. The loud and strict message didn't work this year, nor did the special teams, and that leaves Hartley with not much to hold over the roster.

Love ya dude....but yes he can.

Granted, as bad as the tending has been so have ALL other players and that includes the recent years shiny new toys.

Its all a big sloppy mess right now and what a rebuild looks like, but its also hard to watch.

Whats the saying? Everyone wants a rebuild until they get one?

Let's not forget they got a taste of the playoffs last year. That goes a long way to combating a losing culture

Not worried about a losing culture. If anything I think this will fuel the core players on this team to be better. A new and much better starting goalie is required. Hiller is just awful simply terrible. The season is lost but the draft will be exciting and next year this team can bounce back.

I never thought I'd look forward to watching a game from a 38 year-old goalie who hasn't played in over a year.

Pretty much.

Last year, the Flames were a slightly below average team (whatever the Corsi freaks may say) that overachieved after Giordano was hurt. They got on a bit of a roll, drew an easy opponent in the first round, and got some useful playoff experience.

This year, the Flames were a slightly below average team that seriously underachieved while Brodie was out. (Not surprising: #1 D recovering from surgery + #2 D out of the lineup + #3 D learning an unfamiliar system + rancid goaltending = a perfect storm of defensive suck.) From the beginning of November until the Hudler trade, they were about even on goal differential; they just couldn't make up the ground they lost in October.

Now take that slightly below average team, subtract their #1 RW, #1 G, #4 and #5 D, and replace them with three minor-leaguers and a third-pairing defenceman. Instant putrid, and I didn't expect anything else. This is not on the coaches, it's not on the players for quitting, it's not even particularly on Hiller – every goalie is washed up sooner or later. It's just a really bad roster that hasn't been receiving breaks. They'll probably get some breaks and win a few games while playing out the string, but not enough to improve their position in the standings. That ship has sailed.

It isn't even a question of tanking: trading Hudler, Russell, and Jones for future assets was the only smart move in the circumstances, and nobody chose to have Ramo done for the season or Wideman out for 20 games. But when you take a poor-to-middling NHL roster and remove a quarter of the players, no matter what your motives are, the result will be losing and plenty of it.

It's times like this that I remember an old saying among diplomats: ‘Russia is never as strong as she looks. Russia is never as weak as she looks.’ The same is true of the Flames, and of sports teams generally.

Right now the team needs a starting goalie, a top-six RW, and continued development from Bennett, Hamilton, and other young players. It doesn't need a guest appearance by Chicken Little, but unfortunately, a lot of fans will be eager to provide one.

Worst team in Flames history, somewhere Todd Simpson is saying "damn rights, I knew someone would come along who was worse".

I agree with the earlier poster who noticed Bennett has been invisible lately. Maybe grind of long season has caught up with him.

I think the draft changes are just horrible. The fact that the oilers sucked so freaking bad for so long that they implemented such stupid rules is just a feat not likely ever broken by any other team. ever.

Yeah, the draft change they made last year actually helped the Oilers win McDavid.

Now the ones made this year are probably going to screw the Flames.

Unbelievable. Useless piece of crap franchise.
