You watch the games to see the young guys who will eventually potentially be the identity of this team.
Ortio was good, again. Nak and JJ looked good tonight and together, Nak wired that one timer, nice to see that. JJ stood out with some good hits, good passing, he was calm and didn't force any really bad pucks, jumped up on a few plays, took away some chances defensively with hustle. Accounted very well for himself given he's had zero time to get familiar with his partner... to me it speaks to his IQ and confidence levels which is great... He will make a nice addition to the D if he keeps it up.
Hathaway is another physical pest with hustle, I think I liked him better with Sam though, last nights trio of physical hard working pests was much better, but I can understand Bob wanting to see how he might fit with Sean(seemed a bit gassed tonight) and Johnny.
Bob seems to be given the young guys decent ice time so that's great. I was worried he wouldn't play the young D enough, and even had them out for some special teams!
Still a few guys that are coasting, playing soft, not thinking and that is frustrating to see. Need to see all 4 lines going hard for full 60 minutes like last year which is very much not the case this year and the hardest thing to stomach at time. But still some positives to be seen as long as you focus on the right things and don't worry about the parts that will not impress, hopefully they will be gone sooner then later.
Losing to a stupid penalty in the dying minutes of the game sucks. Was really hoping for some overtime action. I was entertained for most of it because I had some new guys to keep my eye out for and they gave us something to watch at and be excited about plenty of times.
