I like Jpak way more than JJ. Way more. And am I the only one that didn't hate the name GlenX?

How about Jyrki or Jokipakka instead?

Why buy a player out who's coming off our books after next year unless we really need the cap space. Especially when you consider said player will like return you at worst a low end draft pick at the deadline next year?

Because it keeps ripe prospects like Wotherspoon in the AHL or exposed to waivers. At some point you need to make room.

Wotherspoon looked better than smid engelland and at least defensively, wideman.
They need to find a way to offload one or two of the older overpaid duds to make some room next year.
Saw some dallas fans calling him 2pak. I'm sure the plauers will have a good nickname for him in no time.

Google Translate informs me that jokipakka is Finnish for ‘river deck’, whatever that may be. So until forcibly prevented, I shall call him Kevin Riverdeck.
Incidentally, Pekka is a variation of Peter, and Rautakallio means ‘iron rock’. This means Pekka Rautakallio still has the coolest name in Flames history. Pete Ironrock! That's right up there in a class with Butch Deadmarsh.

I think being a non-playoff team allows an organization to really get a better sense of what they have in the pipe before you lose a player to waivers because there were no good times to really see what someone brought.
I am starting to think that the Flames won't wait for next year's deadline to move Wideman. Good chance he goes in the off-season - though the return likewise probably won't be much. With Nakladal, Wotherspoon and Jokipakka (all small sample sizes - especially Jokipakka) all looking like at least legitimate bottom-pairing but dependable defenders, you can make the move now.
What makes me really interested, is how good is Kylington right now? He was playing top-pairing and looking good in the AHL doing so alongside Nakladal (though Nakladal was definitely leading that pairing). He was ahead of Wotherspoon in the lineup. Considering how well Wotherspoon has come in an played, that's pretty impressive.
Wotherspoon seemed like such a more mature and consistent guy out there than his other call-ups. I think he was trying to generate too much his first time out. Well, I think he was trying to be too safe his first time in the NHL, and then tried to generate too much. This time around, he just seemed like a smart guy out there that didn't put himself into dangerous situations, but would recognize a good opportunity to generate offence and he wouldn't hesitate. I really liked what I saw from him, and to be quite honest, I was very close to writing him off. Good to see!

You could also translate Jokipakka "Riverpack". I'm pretty sure the root word for 'pack' and 'pakka' are same, (I'm guessing from German or Old Norse).
Pakka also means things like 'bundle' or 'bolt' (as in a bolt of clothes) in Finnish, among other things.

Yeah, they were talking about this on the FAN this morning and I agree - it's probably best to just move on. Move him in the summer, for whatever you can, and just move on.
With Engelland, Smid (maybe), Nakladal, Jokipakka, and Wotherspoon and Kulak knocking on the door, there are more than enough bodies for the 4-7 spots.

At age 22 Jokipakka had zero NHL games playing the full year in the AHL.... Dallas called up young AHL D-men Nemeth, Olesiak and Gaunce and left Jokipakka in the AHL.
Wotherspoon has had 21 NHL games plus 6 playoff games so far and should get some more in the Flames tanking phase.
I really hope that Wotherspoon is given a chance to fail in the Flames last 19 games..... Let him play 20 minutes/game with Brodie, Gio or even Hamilton for 5 games in a row.
Same opportunity should be given to Jokipakki before he somehow is gifted the #4 slot because he is the shiny new thing.

It's a ricardoism: find any single bit of statistical data that is only remotely relevant, and disregard everything else to make a banal point.
