A guy that has played top 6 on and off goes for a 6th rounder and a contract coming back.

While that may have some validity, the market was also extremely tight this year with no one garnering a first, including Eric Staal.

the only wingers that have fetched more than Hudler are Ladd and Boedker. Seems about right.
Jones for a 6th doesn't seem like much, but other teams couldn't get rid of their UFA wingers at all (Parenteau in Toronto, Vrbata in Vancouver and so on). So yeah, I'll take the 6th instead of nothing at all.
The Flames are huge winners this deadline.

Exactly. And we can't even get a bag of pucks for Stajan. Not surprised we are in 27th place this year. I do think we have a bright future, hopefully we get some goaltending very soon or this should be more of the same next year.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Just finished chatting with Niklas Backstrom. Says he wants to keep playing and still loves to compete. Hasn’t played this year. #Flames

Roster opening....good
6th rounder....sure why not
Another old goalie....why???? I hope they take quick action and we don't have another three headed situation.

Not sure why a three headed situation would matter now none of these guys are signed past this year and our season is pretty much done anyways

And Backstrom likely won't play again this season

He might. He's healthy now, just sucks. And I heard they told him they'd give him playing time, which is why he chose to waive his NMC

would anybody really be sad if the Flames played him over Hiller? Ortio won't start every single game, after all.

We don't know that. Kuemper and Dubnyk are very good goalies and deserved to play and were healthy.
Backstrom sucked last year, and he's old. But that doesn't mean he sucks this year. That's just conjecture.
For the sake of the tanking, I'm sure he won't hurt us too badly.

Fair enough. I'm not against giving him a few starts. May as well see what we got, even if it's just for a bit. Even if he turns out worse than Hiller, so what

Enough games left to continue to give Ortio a real opportunity to prove himself and give Backstrom some games to showcase himself as thanks for waiving the NMC. Is there a point to giving Hiller games for the remainder of the season?

Jones for a 6th or 4m Jones for nothing. I'm good with a 6th.
