One would have thought, going into the deadline, that a serviceable NHLer like Jones would fetch more than a 6th (a 3rd or 4th maybe?), however, the way the market dried up for forwards, and with so many forwards not traded at all! (haha Nuck fans), this is a good deal - it's something.

Calgary's done well the last few years in the 6th round with guys like Mangiapane and Ollas Mattson being recent selections. If they can get someone of a similar calibre to those guys it would be great for us.

And I think Mangiapane will be a top 9 NHL forward, and Ollas-Mattson could see a handful of games down the road.

Looks like Backstrom was buried behind Dybnyk and Kuemper this year. Was still making 4mil this season so you have to think that the Wild originally though he'd be playing. He's 38, last year was 5-7-3, 3.04 gaa, .887 sv%. I don't think he'll play here either, but who knows.

To be fair, I bet the only way we convinced Backstrom to sign his NTC clause was to promise him some NHL time if he can get fit. I don't have a problem with this, we'll need to have a massive goalie rethink from the bottom up in the summer anyway.
