I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed if/when Russell is traded. Some of the values listed are off the charts...

No, it's a great return.
But a UFA Russell doesn't get you even close to a Brett Ritchie.

No, but I'm wondering if a Russell and Klimchuk/Poirier combo gets us one of Nichushikin or Ritchie.
You have to think the Flames are looking at moving Klimchuk now that Shinkaruk is on the team as our next go-to LW'er, and if it means adding him to a package to get a bonafide top-six RW prospect, you do it. That said, Dallas has both Elie and Pollock coming up the ranks on the LW, so perhaps it may not be so easy.

Not a bad train of thought. I'd love to turn Russel into a viable young RW though. But that's just personal preference. I do like Honka though as well.

Teams are allowed to have more then 1 player at any position. That's how you build a team.

Basically we need a ready or near-ready RW youngster that can play top six. We are woefully thin on the right side, and Russell is for all intents and purposes our last best bet at riding the trade winds for that kind of asset. There is no doubt BT will take a RW prospect he feels confident with by this time tomorrow, and if not that, then he'll flip him for picks.
The most foolish move at this point would be to hold on to him - that serves no purpose at this point in the season and where we stand.

Now I'm all excited about Nichushkin and I just don't see Dallas trading him without significant adds 
edit: and there is the rumour, 2 2nds. That will do, seems the market isn't so crazy for him after all.
