UPD: Dreger: Flames hoping to get two 2nds for Russell . Stars have shown interest
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Kris Russell was informed yesterday he is likely to be traded. No surprise. Very strong market. Pitt and Bos frontrunners.
News UpdateDarren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Dallas remains focused on either Russell or Hamhuis. Stars have a lot of time for Russell. Flames hoping to fetch two 2nds in return.

I'm gonna guess that Aaron Ward doesn't touch this one with a ten foot pole.

This is key for Calgary. There needs to be one really good piece coming back.

The most persistent chatter seems to be Russell to Pittsburgh for Matt Murray. The fact that Reimer has now been dealt to San Jose, may be another minor indication that Murray is the keeper the Flames are keying on. Also talk that Colborne may be involved.

I would be overjoyed to see one of the following:
A) Matthew Murray
B) 1st round pick (would prefer 2017)
C) Malcolm Subban + 2nd
D) Two 2nd round picks
If we need to include a Colborne, Jooris or Jones as a sweetener, make it so.

As much as the fancy stat crowd is down on Russell the network talking heads all seem to love him. It appears that hockey people value all of his intangibles. I'm optimistic that we're going to be happy with the return.

I'm hoping it won't just be draft picks coming back, unless it's a 1st. After losing Hudler for picks, our starting lineup will already be weaker next year. Still lots of time to fix that in the summer but it'd be nice to get some NHL-ready prospects instead of picks. We're losing a lot of guys in the off-season and we definitely won't want to rely on UFAs to fill all the gaps!

It's always possible to parlay extra picks into players at the draft remember.

Doesn't Boston have San Jose's 1st rounder from the Jones deal? Or was that a 2017 1st?
I could see with them parting with either there 1st or the Sharks for Russell.

Zero chance Murray or Subban will be moved for a rental.

I dunno... I'd never say zero/never. Calgary could add and we have no idea how highly Russell is valued by opposing GMs.
Pittsburgh has to move one of Jarry/Murray in the next year or two if they want to get peak value.
