Default Best Donair in the city?

Where can I find a kick ass donair??? There's this one place in Edmonton called Swiss Donair that is just unreal. But I can't find a suitable comparison here in Calgary.

The Hungry Sultan in Falconridge is pretty good. I don't like My Donair. Uncle Moe's also sucks ass.

I think its funny that the Shawarma thread got locked, and now we're onto donairs . Lots of Lebanese food junkies on this site apparently.

Best donairs I've had in the city is a little place called the Desert Cafe on 52 St SE and 17th Ave SE. Yea...I know...way over in Forest Lawn - so its kinda out of the way, but they've got great donairs. They have loads of meat and they grill the pitas....mmmmmmmm. My favorite is their Shaesh Tawouk - chicken with coleslaw and fried potatoes - its unbelievably good.

Pita Basket on 5th and 5th SW is very good. I eat there 3 or 4 times a week.

Try Amin's Donair on 7th Ave (between centre str and 2nd st) -- it's a hole in the wall, but I really like the donairs

If you are talking about the one I think you are, it is actually on 6th Street and 5th Ave.

I second this one. Really good, but do not go there between 12 and 1 if you can help it, as the line up is out the door.

Agreed- they are good.

However if you are in the area; and want a decent one for cheap, right beside is the Busy Bee (or as we call it the Smokey Bee) where you can get a large Donair for $4.50 including GST.

I really like all the My Donair locations in Calgary, but the one that i've had the absolute most amazing donairs from is the one in the SE on 52 st, close to 40 ave. For those from Edmonton, this one matches the exquisite quality of Marcos and Charles Smart on Whyte.

Thanks for the other suggestions to guys, I will definitly be checking out the Pita Basket, good donair places downtown seem to be hard to find.

Is this in the strip mall? Or across the street by Fountain Tire? Funny how I drive by this intersection everyday and have never seen it. LOL

When I'm in Edmonton, I always go to Queen's Donair. It helps that my in-laws live 5mins away from it.

I agree! Queen Donair was the best tasting Donair that I've had anywhere. The fact that you can get a Donair the size of your head after a night of drinking should be a celebrated thing.

I Calgary I would have to say Amin Donair is the best. For Edmonton places I love Marco's, Charles smart is decent too.

The last time I ate at Queen Donair they were located beside the Rebar (nightclub) on Whyte Avenue and they had a window directly into the bar where they could sell lots of food to drunk people.

Charles Smart is on whyte.. but its a bit of a ways down. Near 90th street if I remember correctly. Not sure about Queen's, I've been there but I was drunk and don't even remember how it tasted, probably good though

There is as a Marco's Donair in SUB, but the better one is on Whyte.. pretty central.. near Calgary Trail I think

Yeah - its across the street from that Fountain Tire - but its in the strip mall that runs parallel to 52nd on the SE corner of the intersection - right next to Totem Building Supplies.

Ahhhh...Forest Lawn...you can get a good Donair and get your car stolen all in one convenient location.
