I have a hard time understanding the number of Calgary Flames goaltender apologists on CP. They need to be better, plain and simple.
Yup it's getting a little hard to stomach. I don't know how these guys can be defended. They are garbage. Plain and simple. I would take Joey MacDobald at this point it's so bad.

Jaffee (sp?) needs to understand that Calgary had to come back in a TON of games last year due to goaltending as well.

How many times did Hiller let in the first SOG last season?

Uh huh?

He'll come around. As others have mentioned, this is a tough scenario to be thrown into. I still have faith, though!

Edit - I am now confused after your edit, lol.

What's the argument here? Hiller got pulled, regardless if Hartley blames the goals on him sometimes you need to change goalies to get a boost going.

It was the right call regardless if the goals were Hillers fault or not.

The Flames goaltenders consist of a bottom 5 starter and a bottom 10 backup. If the Flames had even average goaltending, they would be close to a playoff spot. Both guys are bad. Ramo is an average backup. It's like having Vesa Toskala starting for us.

Until that's sorted out, the team is going to have difficulties.

The only reason why the Flames got away with it last year was due to the fact that each guy was playing at his best or he'd be on the bench.

Haha, wasn't saying they didn't need to be better, I want Ramo/Hiller shot into the sun, the perception around here that is so heavily slanted on just flippantly throwing all the blame at the goalies feet is tiring.

2 of those heavily screened goals I wouldn't expect the best in the league to stop. So why pile on the hate without taking a more objective look at things.

Call me an apologist all you want, but I'm not blindly defending the goalies every single goal.

I wished they'd settle this panel down. The guys tend to talk over her and she gets more rapid and shrill trying to hold her own. Precious mute button.

Here's an objective look: flames are down 5-4 on mostly perimeter/point shots

I don't think Ramo is the answer at all and am
Looking forward to getting someone else here, but this guy has been dealt a very poor hand by the Flames since he got here. No matter what he does he's always had to watch over his back. He could win ten straight and Hartley seems to just be waiting for a chance to get Hiller back in the saddle.

Umm ya it's the NHL. Competition is high and if you suck, you're going to get replaced.

I'm sorry but Ramo sucks. And Hiller sucks. Hartley does his best in a bad situation.

This NHL.tv thing really needs to add some kind of music or something if they aren't going to show commercials... just sitting in utter silence is weird.

There's healthy competition and there's knowing someone else is being favoured and your coach is just waiting to get them back in.

But you are right, it's not Hartley's fault. GM needs to take some blame for this situation (past and present). I've always thought Hiller was a very poor signing by Burke and Treliving continuing the madness this year of resigning Ramo. There was no market for moving Hiller.
