I said you could dress 7 d-men, not scratch all the vets. Nothing to do with tanking, it's about a team that just lost to the worst team in hockey at home, has had a bad season and could use a kick in the butt. I don't think playing the guy 8 minutes or something to see what you have before possibly trading a guy like Russell away is tanking at all.

I don't love dressing 7 d-men but I think that isn't the worst idea if you really wanna see what he's about. But I don't think dressing 7 defensemen gives us the best chance to win so I don't think Hartley would do it.

I'm just saying Hartley as a professional coach can't scratch good NHL veterans for a minor league defenseman. He can't ice an inferior lineup. He has to do his job and dress the best lineup he can. Until injury or trade that lineup likely doesn't have Nakladal in it because our six NHL d-men are pretty good.

I'm sure he'll get his chance before the end of the season. I'd be shocked if we didn't trade a defenseman at the deadline. If we re-sign Russell then one of Wideman/Smid/Engelland goes IMO. If we don't re-sign Russell before the deadline then I think Treliving has to deal him.

freaking out about Nakladal is pretty ridiculous IMO.

There is still a LOT of season left. I doubt many fans would be surprised if one or more of our current Dmen get moved by the deadline. Plus, injuries happen.

Nakladal will get his chance. He hasn't done anything to cause the coach to bench an NHLer in order to get him into the lineup immediately. It'll happen soon enough

In a sudden twist of fate, my wife is heading to the ER to get help for her tooth abscess/infection. So I'm not heading to game night and instead watching the game.

Can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'm certainly not freaking out.

This is a bad hockey team that has an unknown quantity sitting in the press box. I think there's a way of getting him into the lineup without tanking. I don't think that's terrible idea.

It's a great idea.

But there's lots of time, is all I'm saying. No need to bench a vet to force it through.

Not really sure playing Nakladal constitutes tanking. I would say trading Hudler and Russell is just as much tanking. So basically i think neither is tanking its just part of doing a rebuild properly.

It's not about Nakladal specifically, but it's about time they start doing the things expected of a rebuilding team that sits tied for last place over halfway into the season should do, and that's evaluate players for a long term fit. When you're winning, not doing so gets justifyable excused. But they're not winning. So you're doing something short-sighted and it's not even producing results.

To me, Nakladal is a small scribble on that docket, but Sam Bennett continuing to play left wing with not one, but a pair of guys who seemingly couldn`t beat an NHL goalie with their soft wristers if that Goalie`s name was Jonas Hiller and the the crossbar was a few inches higher is the one that really grinds my gears. I also think we need to see Monahan produce away from Gaudreau.

Can they wait until the trade deadline, which is a pretty arbitrary point in time? Sure. They can even wait until game 80 if they like. But the bigger the sample, the better. And pre-trade deadline games are likely to be more meaningful a sample to evaluate and higher-intensity than the stuff after, when the best teams are just trying to avoid injuries before the playoffs and the worst teams have sold better veterans off.

Please don't label me as freaking out but Engelland could easily be sat in favor of a call-up. Skill wise he is a fringe NHLer. He's more useful when the game gets physical which hasn't happened in forever.

Please don't sit Russell for any reason. Upping his trade value is a big priority.

Looks like Colborne, Granlund, and Nakladal are the scratches

Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Lines look like this for the #Flames as per warm-up:
Guadreau-Monahan-Hudler
Bennett-Backund-Frolik
Ferland-Jooris-Jones
Bouma-Stajan-Bollig

Why? He's been scratched before including just a few weeks ago vs Florida and Edmonton back-to-back.

Engelland is playing well at the moment. He's far from a fringe NHLer. He can outlet the puck just fine. He uses his size and strength to rub guys out along the boards. He's playing above average as a 3rd pairing guy at the moment IMO.

Are you suggesting he's a goon defensemen who can't play defense? Cause if you are then you have no idea what you're talking about.
