If that doesn't work, try this;

Open start
Right click on your username in the top left of the start menu.
Hit change account settings.
Go to sign in options;
Select "never" on the "require sign in" drop down.

I have a similar issue in that when certain usb devices are plugged in they cause everything to freeze or to run really slowly, so i basically need about 10 minutes to open anything. It gets even worse if I leave the device plugged in, say to just charge, and don't do anything on my PC then nothing is opening.

Driving me nuts

You can if you kill the process then rename the folder. I did this then completely deleted the folder, then created a text file with the same name as the original folder. Takes a bit of messing with file/folder permissions but it works.

My computer has been running faster since updating to Windows 10 so there is that!

This is horrible advice. Windows 10 works far better than 7 or 8.1. Have upgraded three PCs and couldn't be happier.

Just because you haven't had problems doesn't mean that it isn't still buggy. If you read any computer forums (hey see this thread!) its obvious that people are having issues with Windows 10. My opinion is that Windows 10 is a great upgrade if you don't have to waste your time trying to fix problems it causes but in my case this hasn't been true and I personally wish I had waited longer to upgrade.

As I've noted I have been happy with Windows 10 as my laptop is faster since the upgrade.

I am not happy having wasted 4hrs working with Microsoft help staff trying to fix a problem that Windows 10 caused. They didn't even know how to solve the issue and it ended up being resolved by suggestions from another user.

LOL, Goddamn Windows 10.

Brand new rig. Nearly $4k down without even the monitor, brand new shiny install of Windows 10. Boot it up, manage to get the initial screen and give it the new key. Update all the various privacy settings that every recommends (holy poop there are a ton that Windows tries to set by default).

Figure I'll give it a nice new reboot . . . and now it's stuck in an endless Diagnostic and Autorepair loop. I have literally not installed or been able to do anything else yet.

To be fair, I shouldn't be surprised . . . but come on!

I'd agree on this one...I've never had a new computer I built run smoothly. I win the lottery on defective parts every time! Last time it was the Motherboard, which was definitely the most painful thing to swap out.

EDIT: Windows 10 is installed on a laptop and a desktop in my place, and the only problem I've ever had was the search function not working once. A reboot fixed it. I went through a bunch of effort trying to swap over an old hard drive mode, but that's not a Windows 7/8/10 problem, that's me!

Also it sounds like DEP should be turned on in the BIOS to prevent this. Verify that is on.

Update your BIOS. The BIOS that shipped with my new MB caused incorrect memory timings. No issues after the update.

Just because you had a bad experience isn't enough to justify advising people against upgrading.

That was not clear from your post that I quoted, thus my post.

Some update caused my ethernet adapter to periodically stop working. Took a while to figure out that. Windows 10 for whatever reason, automatically installed a new driver for it that was incompatible. So, if you have an ethernet connection to your router and it loses internet access every 5 minutes; check the manufacturer for the correct driver.

Also, if you downloaded / created Windows 10 installation media from prior to late-November 2015, you are installing the July (RTM) release of Windows 10. If you create media or download the latest ISO, it comes with the 1511 build update released in November of 2015, so make sure your USB stick or setup DVD is up to date.

Wow....that's surprising.

MS "Tech Support" is just plain awful, borderline pointless. Any issues I've had with PC's has far more often than not, been resolved with the help of other users. I can't think of one example where MS has helped me solve a problem.

Uh huh. He spent four hours browsing social.technet.microsoft.com or answers.microsoft.com. That's not 'MS Tech Support'. Those are primarily community-driven forums, even when MS staff are on them.

You want Microsoft tech support, you have to pick up the phone and call. If you haven't done that, you haven't actually worked with Microsoft technical support, which is evident because your story would be far different if you had.

Wow...touched a nerve did I?

Yes, my experience includes picking up the phone as you put it. Equally as useless. That's my experience, if it's been better for you, fantastic.

tl;dr version: New install of Windows 10 Enterprise with all reporting options turned off made 3967 connection attempts to 51 different Microsoft IPs within 8 hours of being turned on.

OK, it's trying to make lots of connections, but what is it trying to do? What information is it trying to send or receive?

I'm sure nothing important that will threaten your privacy just useless data packets that are of no use to Microsoft.

This happens every 10-15 minutes regardless of privacy settings.
