^ I thought that at first to, but then remembered the airport has free labour from the white hats, so this is probably a lot cheaper.

For this to be truly useful, the airport is going to have to run them on a frequent, constant basis which is going to cost them a crap ton in labour costs. Not to mention justifying all the space that these lanes are going to monopolize.
Going to a "hailing" or request system isn't going to be convenient and most people will just walk rather than wait (and bitch all the way)

Media are expecting a major announcement at YYC this morning at 10:30. Any guesses as to what it could be?

Yup, it's definitely the Hainan announcement. Tell me Polak, how is getting a new route to China lame? This is a great get for YYC.
Flights start June 30th and operate 3x weekly with a Boeing 787-8, frequency scheduled to increase to 4x weekly come October.

Lame that it's an announcement for something that's already been announced.

I'll take it, up until I saw the actual flights bookable on Hainan yesterday and their LinkedIn page having job positions listed for YYC I wasn't sure if this route would materialize. Especially in this economic climate. I just hope we can sustain the flight, and I wonder how this may affect Air Canada's Tokyo flight.

So that means we get BA's 787, AC's 787 (-9?) and now this, right?
All of the wing flex!

Sexy wing flex all the way! Oh and BA is operating the 787-9 tomorrow, there are a few stretches where we are getting her with BA this year.

I REALLY hope this flight catches on. I'll be flying it every few months so it's GREAT news for me.
Sucks they aren't Star Alliance, but I'll take it.

That's the Edelweiss flights, just once weekly over the summer. Not sure if they are publicly bookable or only through European vacation packs.

I never would have guessed that a Calgary to Beijing flight would go over such little water.
