I don't think we have enough evidence to call what sort of market there will be this year, a buyers or a sellers. This is why I'd rather Treliving leaves it and hopefully someone else dives it and sets the market. Heck, if it means leaving things until the deadline, so be it. Someone will bite for Hudler, of that I'm almost certain. Given how many teams are in the hunt for the play offs and Hudler's modest cap hit, he could help a lot of teams. Lets be patient and see what happens elsewhere before declaring him to be worth X value imo.

Yes the markets do change year to year but that is still the only way we have to determine a player's worth.
As for Vermette, Franson and Perron, I think those guys are all clearly more valuable than an older Hudler who's having a bad year.

Currently there are 6 teams in the NHL under .500. All teams .500 or better seem to be within 6 points or less of the playoffs. I anticipate another sellers market. I hope we can get more than just a 2nd for Hudler. maybe by deadline the price will increase or maybe the Flames will retain salary to get a first

It is being rumored that the Winnipeg #Jets could be trading Dustin Byfuglien to the Los Angeles #Kings with Andrew Ladd being traded to the Florida #Panthers.

I thought the Ladd thing was dead in the water. As in it barely got mention and Tallon shut it down publicly.
And the Buff thing, well thats been debated here for a few days already. Would be awesome if it went down soon though.

Ah, bummer. Would be "interesting" fits though, not sure Ladd is what Florida needs.

I know it was just someone speculating, but if Byfuglien went to the Kings... Jesus H. Would they not become the favourites in the West?

Its not speculation, on Feb 2 LeBrun reported on TSN that the Kings have expressed interest in Byfuglien .

I'm very interested to see what Washington does. They've yet to win a cup as an organization - 1974. This should be their year to go for it, trade for Ladd or Big Buff whatever it takes. Not sure the Caps have a need for Hudler either but perhaps? They are also very close to the cap.

Does the kings expressing interest in Byfuglien impact the Lucic talks, or perhaps is it a signal to the Lucic camp about LA's willingness to look elsewhere for size and toughness?
Seems to me you can't have both unless big buff is pure rental.

I think LA chases a pure rental. They want to be a dynasty. They will give up every 1st rounder that they need to chase another cup. And rightfully so

Hudler to Chicago makes a lot of sense.

I agree, if all it takes is a 2nd rounder to get Hudler he would have been traded by now. I'm thinking the Flames are going to ask for a minimum of a 2nd & 3rd rounder for him.

I think Hudler has something like 6 points in his last 7 games ... that could be enough to get more interest generated, a return to last season's production rate.

Flames play 12 more games before the deadline. If they go 9-2-1 that would put them at 31-26-4 and likely knocking on the door but still 3-5 points out of a playoff spot. I hope that doesn't change managements opinions on trading Hudler

Yeah, he has 6 pts in his last 7 games, 4 in 4.
More importantly, he has actually started to look like himself recently.
If he and the top line can go on a roll for the next 5 to 10 games, and he shows that he is still the player that he was last year now that he's healthy, I would think his value would rise a fair bit - to maybe a 2nd and a good prospect or something like that.
