Why are those outraged about John Scott, an AHL-caliber player, participating in the game not also outraged about Pekka Rinne's inclusion? He's played at the level of an AHL goalie this season - hell, Karri Ramo looks outstanding in comparison. Obviously Rinne's inclusion was a feel good, home team, story. The game could have been more competitive with a better goalie!!!

I was just thinking the same after I saw how frickin' big he is. And his slapshot speed is actually pretty good. With his size, he's actually not as slow as what some say he is. If the guy has played for San Jose and the Hawks, he must've been good enough to have been called up. I definitely like his size and I think he can definitely help the Flames in both the offensive zone in front of the net during power plays or defensively either banging players around or moving them out of the crease.

The crowd that is angry at Scott (or his presence at the game) need to direct their anger and frustration where it belongs: at the NHL.
They are 100% at fault for him being there as they gave the fans a blank check to vote him in.
With it having happened in voting a few years in a row now, they should have seen the troll job coming.
You can't tell the fans they can pick someone and then get angry when the do it.
I wasn't crazy about him being there either, but the NHL did open to door for it.
At the end of the day, the sentiment really made the story overwhelmingly a positive one. Anyone who didn't find it as such is really a grumpy person.
I will agree the NHL should amend it's policy to prevent fringe players from being selected as it's unlikely that magic can be rekindled... but this weekend really did turn out to be a great story. Full stop.

Thats probably the hope for Hunter Smith (and I imagine that was the hope for Bollig when we acquired him)

The first star of the week thing is weird. Especially because the NHL didn't have to do it. That reads a lot like someone in the NHL office trying to ride the positive PR. Which, if nothing else, stands as evidence that the NHL does eventually realize a good thing, even if you have to slap them in the face with it repeatedly before the league takes notice.

I can't speak for everyone, but I am personally not "angry" at Scott, nor at the fact that he played in the ASG. I am simply of the opinion that he should not have been there, understand and accept why he was included, and would have preferred had he not been. I maintain my hope that after this one-off that turned out really well in the end, the NHL does the right thing to adjust the ASG fan-voting system to prevent future ballot stuffing debacles.

Guaranteed the league changes the voting format. As well they should. They should have in 2007 after Vote for Rory. Also, because this weekend can't be topped. Trying again would be forced and second rate. Just like there can be only one Red Mile and imitators like "Kopper Kilometre" and "Sens Mile" only cheapened the whole thing.

I think the NHL needs to understand that the 1st star should be the final kick in the can, or it just becomes patronizing (easily argued that the 1st star was one thing too far).
It's a lightning in a bottle thing, but who knows if they're smart enough to know when it's over and use the PR to re-focus on your product.

One thing that isn't being discussed:
John Scott said the Pacific team would use the winnings to take a holiday together at the end of the season. Does this mean Johnny and Gio will become friends with Taylor Hall and Corey Perry.
This should be the real outrage.
