So, if you were going to the all-star game and wanted to purchase a shirt for a player, you can still get league leading scorer Patrick Kane.

But if you want John Scott's shirt? Sorry... sold out.

Not quite the buffoon many people made him out to be.

I hope Johnny sets him up for a couple goals.

Getting support from a few players on social media.

Bobby Ryan @b_ryan9
This is a heck of a read about a role that we as players have a ton of respect for. Good luck out there!

Obviously this is not a good situation. Let me say that it could be handled better and with more sensitivity to the situation

However that being said, I am not sure why some think of his situation in a different light compared to other employees of organizations, which is what Scott is and all other NHL players are.

How many guys have lost their jobs with a wife pregnant and a young family, and all they got was their vacation banked time and 2 weeks severance? Classless sure, however its a reality of employment

That reality is normally brought on by the organisations of which a player is a part of. This is a direct consequence of the fans voting him in, so in part, if you were to vote him in (I'm not saying you did), that would make you partly responsible for him moving his family.

I hope the guy has fun out there, whether he gets back to the NHL or not is up to how he plays in the minors.

Because the 2 scenarios are completely different?

They weren't laying off John Scott, they were trading him out of Arizona solely for the reason of not dealing with his all-star nomination and washing their hands of the situation.

Scott killed the NHL brass dead in that article, anything they do now will only embarrass them further. Brilliant politicking by Scott there.

Not really, even before this whole circus, John Scott was waived multiple times. Not sure why he's surprised he was traded.

Stempniak's wife was in the late stages of her pregnancy when he was traded. In his situation, they knew there was a good chance he'd be traded at the deadline, so she went back to their summer home (Boston, IIRC) and her mother was with her during the final weeks of the pregnancy.

Last season, McGrattan was sent to Adirondack when his wife was in the late stages of her pregnancy. They did grant him a leave of absence to return to Calgary when her due date got closer, but he was in the AHL for 18 games.

I'm confused. What did the Coyotes do that was so bad? I noticed people were slagging them but I'm not sure why.

Great read for sure. They should just make it the All Star game for which players want to go.

Lets vote players OUT of the All Star Game, like Toews and Oveckin. If they don't want to be there then why waste a roster spot?

I'm all for Scott going to the All Star game, but let's not over react. We don't want to dilute what it is to be an all star.

For example, one day people will be saying Iginla was a memorial cup winner, Olympic Gold, Art Ross, 4X All Star, etc. If that accolade becomes diluted, then what's the point in holding them?

Montreal being one of the oldest teams in the league, I am disappointed that they didn't honor Scott's eligibility to play in the ASG, I mean they did "TRADE FOR" him. I lost a lot of respect for Montreal, it feels like they are willing to do whatever the league tells them to do. Don't feel bad that they are in a losing streak.

One of the best Tribune articles yet.

Side question: How the hell does The Players tribune Make money? Their website doesn't even have ads.
