This was the best read I've seen on PT so far. It really brings things into perspective on the guys just trying to make it. I for one will be cheering him on and hope he pushes his way back to the Show

This is one of the best articles I've read on Player's Tribune, and I think I've read almost all of the hockey ones. Excellent read.

Dang - John Scott is 6'8" - what the Flames need in size for the D! I'm sure the Flames can make him into a Regehr type player. I'm not sure if it's ever too old to learn new skills, but the guy's got brains, he should either use it to further his engineering career or learn to be a Regehr or Chara type of player. It's really too bad about the stupid fan voting.

I did and still don't want Scott there but it was never going to change whether or not I was going to watch the game, which I am and gonna love it. In regards to the above, that is just a stupid question to ask... Get your head outta your ass, of course his kids would be proud of him you jag...

I'll never understand why idiotic questions are asked, you see it all the time with reporters and interviewers, especially when a topics been beat to death and they keep pressing the same questions, etc...

Why not move the all star game after the playoff?

My take on this whole situation is that it got blown out of proportion for no actual reason. Everyone knows that maybe it shouldn't have happened but in the end it did, and the league should have just let it be.

The biggest thing for me is that legit NHL "stars" have voiced their support for Scott to go according to many sources. I have no doubt in my mind that some players who are going to the game are really happy about John Scott being there, why? Becuase they respect the enforcer role. Players who have been in the league long enough to witness what the enforcer role was years ago understand and respect the position these players are in, at the same time though enforcers like John Scott are fully respectful of the time, energy, training and practice that superstars in the NHL endure in order to be "elite"

NHL players are a brotherhood and although some players don't agree with the situation, I don't see anybody thinking that the lack of respect he has endured here is needed or warranted.

At the end of the day the NHL screwed this up and nobody else is to blame. This type of BULL SH** also smells like the NFL and their "protect the shield" mantra where the league causes their own problems.

Its nice to see arizona sliding out of the playoffs since the scott trade i was kind of rooting for them to make the playoffs but to pull such a classless move to one of their own players i can't support that

This article is why I had no problem with John going. Does he deserve to go? Probably not. Was it all a joke by the fans to make fun of him? Probably. However he took it in stride and showed nothing but class the entire time. Something the NHL failed to do. 20 years from now, when no one gives a rat's ass about the 2016 all-star game, John Scott's family will have those memories to share. While that has nothing to do with hockey, how can you anybody not feel some feels for him?

The league handled it in a piss poor manner, and quite frankly some posters on this site should be embarrassed for some of the things they said about him. Calling him names like a buffoon and ogre and how he had no place in the game. What a load of BS. He did his time. Team's wanted him. He paid his dues. While the roll he plays might be filtering out, he's a part of an NHL team and he's earned it.

Does he deserve to be an NHL all-star? Probably not. But after reading this article and seeing how poorly the league handled the situation, I hope he gets the loudest ####ing standing ovation out of anybody at the game. The fact that some of the big stars are getting suspensions for not going shows just how much of a joke the entire all-star thing is. So I have no issue with a feel-good guy like Scott getting a turn to play with some of the stars.

It wouldn't surprise me if the trade was demoralizing for the team. If it's true that the ARI players were all happy for him, and then management pulls this sort of stunt, I'd be pissed too.

I was casually 'let Scott play' before reading this article. Now, I'll be actively rooting for him. That big ole lug. *sniffle*

Yeah - I thought Scott should have declined initially but now am happy he went.

Really he was the only guy who didn't do anything wrong in this whole thing.

NHL were dinks in how they approached him about not going.

Looks more & more like Arizona traded him because of this whole situation.

Marek and Wyshynski were dinks for starting this whole fan vote to start with and picking "the worst player in the league".

Great story.

Trading a guy with a 9 month pregnant wife is tough, its a business it happens.

But asking that question, how else is he going to answer that.

I hope someone sets him up for a for real legit goal or two, bot to stick it to the NHL, so that their kids can be even more proud of him.

Go John Go

Newfound respect for enforcers. After reading the Westgarth PT (was it Westgarth?), the Scott PT and seeing Big Ern first hand in our organization, wow. These guys.

Huge newfound respect.
