Yeah, because it's been established that the minimum for intentionally checking a ref is 20 games, so I had to raise it.

Some astounding logic here.

It's rare for a linesmen to be hit intentionally, therefore it can never happen and we should always give the benefit of the doubt to anyone that appears to hit a linesmen intentionally.

The refs would have thrown him out if it was deliberate, because the refs always see everything and always make the right decision.

Honestly, this must be why we need lawyers.

Sorry to get aggressive, but you guys started the attacks first, like always. Most hostile message board that I can think of.

Concussed or not, you don't bowl over random people on the way to the bench. Knowing about this rule, I'm going to ballpark 25 games for his suspension.
His head was down. His eyes were probably looking down as well. Suddenly the linesman is in front of him. His hands go up and you can see he tries to step aside, but it's too late.

he clearly had his bell rung

I have no clue what anyone who thinks he did it intentionally is seeing, he can barely stay on his feet, he likely doesnt even know what's coming at him (those who say he can see the linesman haven't been concussed, the next few minutes are a haze) and just put his hands up to protect himself

only person who needs to be suspended is whomever let him continue playing

Not sure what Wideman was thinking there - but woozy or not it looked like an intentional shot at the linesman. The video is not going to help his cause.

If he is so dazed he did it unintentionally then why did he finish the game? He clearly changed direction, raised his arms and his stick, and gave a shove.

If he was wearing any other jersey most people would be disgusted by this. I don't care what jersey he wears. Hitting a ref in the numbers near the boards is despicable.

How? How is it not intentional? I've provided the following points:

1. Wideman skates toward Henderson for a good 30 feet before the check

2. Wideman's looking directly at Henderson the seconds before the check

3. He looked angry, not woozy, after the check

lol you can't be serious...he steps to the side and puts his hands up. Probably just realized there was gonna be a collision at the last second. Totally reactionary its different in super slow mo.

Look at this video. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/g...ter-scary-hit/

Go to the 40 mark and look at his right eye. He has a lump and a cut, which if he just smacked his head and if he can't really see out of his eye then how is it hard to believe it was accidental.

2. How can you tell that looking from behind?
3. Looked angry? Ok. Let's guess emotions!

It's easier to see what happened once you take off the rose coloured glasses. He crosschecked a REFEREE. He didn't "accidentally" bump into him. Sometimes I think this place has gone nuts.

The fact that Wideman didn't look back after the hit was somewhat telling, even if it was a last minute reaction. Looked pissed off, and woozy, and on surface, took out frustration on slamming the stick then hitting the first body he was near.

Tough call.

This would definitely be the first suspension where there wasn't a call on the ice.

Give me a break. The only thing that him remaining in the game tells us is that he wasn't so dazed and confused that this was all a happy accident.

Eric Lindros said he used to play whole shifts and even score and not remember them while he played with concussions.

It will be interesting to see what the NHL says, but Wideman didn't look angry before or after the hit. He just looked hurt.
