Well, sureLoss, you have your ways of knowing all things hockey, so I have no reasons to doubt your explanation. But, it just doesn't make sense, logically. If there was a promise from Yzerman, then Drouin and his agent KNEW that going public would hurt them. Why did they? I find it hard to believe in sheer stupidity at this level of business.

Yzerman is not well liked by star players it seems.

Well the rumors around him were that he wasn't the nicest person so I'm not surprised

Drouin's approach here is playing with fire, if he doesn't start to play ball a little he may find himself in Edmonton or Winnipeg as punishment. Crushing your own value is not going to make Yzerman want to send him somewhere decent.

It's his one chance to make a living playing a game. And with the rumours going around Tampa Bay lately, maybe, just maybe, he could be right.

In face of all the criticism and backlash he has and will receive, I respect him for it.
Drouin is doing what's best for his career based on some very bad advice from his agent on how to handle this situation. Young players like Drouin will often trust what their agent advises and in this case it going to hurt him in lost salary that could could end up being a considerable amount if a trade doesn't happen in the near future.

That's the thing with this though...Drouin isn't a star player, and in fact at this point, isn't even a player....period.

I don't know if Yzerman is liked by his players or not, though I suspect he is in general, but I see nothing to indicate one way or another. The St. Louis thing was a player who became petulant and lost all sorts of respect league wide. The trade Yzerman made for him, in hindsight, was a stroke of genius when you consider that he was negotiating with one team only.

The Stamkos thing has little to do with Yzerman IMO, and a whole lot to do with Jon Cooper. I still think SS ends up signing with Tampa, but if not I don't believe it will reflect one way or another on Stevie Y

No way any one is getting Drouin for just a mid-round draft pick. I'm pretty sure if that was all they were asking for he would have been traded a long time ago.

This might hurt his value but at the same time he will likely get the Turris return. I say offer Porier and a 2nd and make a team overpay to get him. I noticed Porier is starting to find his game after a horrible start.

Walsh has a long list of successful clients. He knows what he's doing.

What does suspending a player actually do? Suspends pay only and or what else?

From the perspective of Drouin and his agent, the trade should have been completed months ago.

From their perspective Yzerman is looking for a perfect return while Drouin is stuck in the AHL, when in their opinion he would be a NHL regular on another team.

There were reportedly a dozen plus teams interested in Drouin. In Drouin's mind that should be more than enough for Yzerman to play those teams against each other and get a good return in trade.

So from the perspective of Drouin, he needs to force Yzerman's hand and he has tried to do it in the only ways he can. 1st was to make the trade request public. 2nd is to sit out.

Yeah he has made Yzerman's job harder, but it looks like he doesn't care about that anymore. He just wants a new start with a new organization ASAP, everything else be damned.

It is going to be interesting to see how the GMs around the league respond to this.

Well this certainly doesn't help Yzerman's bargaining position or Drouins percieved value.

I'd still take him on the Flames in a heartbeat for a reasonable cost though. Maybe a late 1st or a 2nd and a mid prospect.

Yzerman isn't doing so well as a GM this year.

Yzerman isn't going to be a GM much longer once this trade goes down and Stamkos walks. I wonder why all the sour grapes in TB. There's much more going on there than is being let out.
