Default Canuck's making Moves

Well the Canuck's are currently in last place in the league, after being in a play off spot when GM Punk took over. We had a few offers on the table and decided to shake things up.

To the Flyers:
Brayden Schenn

To the Canucks
Tomas Vanek
1st Boston

Vanek will hopefully add some veteran scoring to the Canucks. Schenn never really clicked with the team, even after being given 2nd line minutes. The late 1st will help make up the age difference and will help replace the player sent to the Islanders.

To the Islanders:
Ryan Callahan
Bo Horvat

To the Canuck's
David Krejci
Mason Geertsen

Kreijci had a bad year last season and his rating suffered for it. But he's healthy now and should be able to take over the #1 center position for the Canucks next season. Geertsen is a strong D prospect for the Avs and we think he has some potential.

As much as we loved Bo, he wasn't going to be a #1 guy for us. Callahan has struggled and looks for a change of venue.

Thanks to everyone for the talks

Thanks Spike.

I'll explain the rationale for the Isles/Canucks deal from our perspective:

-We love Krejci and is a #1 centre
-We already have Ryan Johansen as a #1 centre had some ability to move Krejci if the deal was right
-Callahan gives us the ability to still be competitive this year
-Callahan will take a big hit to ratings this year, but we think that's a good thing as his Grid will be cheaper and should hopefully bounce back (buy low?)
-Even if Callahan doesn't completely pan out, I would consider a Krejci for Horvat deal straight up something that we are happy with
-I hate the dirty Canucks, but every time I watch them I am impressed with Horvat and think he will turn into a #1b/#2 centre which we are OK with
-We were OK offering up Geertsen as our defensive prospect depth is relatively decent

Thanks Spike for the deal.

Like the Islander/Canuck moves for both teams.
Really like what you did with the Philly move Spike.

Nice work with the team so far.

Vanek is having a great year for the Wild, and probably due for a rate increase, but we wanted to shake things up while A: getting younger, and B: shed some salary. (we have a few guys who will get a hefty raise next year, so the $1.5M savings will help towards that)

Schenn will never know, but he was the 3rd person we tried going after in exchange for Vanek. The first was a similar deal, but with a higher 1st. I thought it was still a win for the other team, but it turned into a counter with us losing Allen, and that isn't happening. The 2nd GM didn't reply, so that was an easy one to move on to and Spike was easy to deal with.

Adding the pick was necessary to sweeten the pot and get a younger return on a nicer contract. Schenn is on pace for a career year in Philly, and we're hoping any worries about his consistency are put to rest moving forward.

Thanks for the talks Spike!

Wow, that Vanek deal is a great deal for the Canucks I think.
