My all-time favourite Flame. Cp will appreciate that he accomplished the feat against the Oilers.
Those were considered amazing moves back then lol...I was at that game and thought the same. I always laugh when people say the players were better back then and bring up scoring records. 90% of goals back then wouldn't go in these days. "he made that move on the best d-man in the NHL" so funny

In other news, on this day in 1953, US President Harry Truman announces that the United States has developed the hydrogen bomb.
It's ironic and somewhat depressing that I hear the 90s as "old-time" hockey. When I was growing up and in band camp, that was the 60s & 70s as old time hockey without helmets, black and white tv, and hockey on once a week if we're lucky.

That "one of the best defensive defensemen" was none other than Kevin Lowe.
What a circus.

I like how he looks over the top excited in celebration of the first goal and then after the second goal has an 'I've done this before' reaction on the celebration.

Hunter-Hrdina-Fleury. Talk about setting up the rookie to fail!
Jiri Hrdina would be the 2nd line centre on a lot of NHL teams at the time. A year or two before he captained the Czechoslovakian team at the Canada Cup. The fact he was given a checking role on the Flames only shows how ridiculously stacked that '89 Flames team was.

Hrdina was actually a very good player. Got 54 points in 70 games for the Flames that year, playing mostly on the bottom two lines (!) with some PP time. Didn't come to North America till he was 30, but still managed to play on three Stanley Cup winners.
Hunter, well, he was there in case any Oilers decided to goon on the new kid. Didn't take long for Terry Crisp to figure out that Fleury could hold his own against any goon.
