That matches well with having a top 25 year old Dman and a 22 year old with number 1 potential.
I think Drouin has potential to make this trade look similar to the Seguin deal.

I think the Sequin deal will also ensure that Yzerman gets a significant return here. I think wherever he goes, the return will include a strong combo of "now" and "future" assets ending up in Tampa.

Definitely.
However, if we trade one, I would hope it isn't Kyllington

I would be okay with a deal that include anyone on the roster outside the core 6 and any of our prospects or protected 1st round pick
Similar to the Dougie deal if we give up a 1st or prospect we are still getting a long term player in return.

I'm not even a huge Drouin fan but here's what it comes down to for me
- He has elite upside
- He has shown some ability to already produce in the NHL
So he has a high ceiling and a low chance of completely busting. He is likely at minimum a top 6 forward.
The prospects we are talking about here (Kylington, etc) have, at best, a slighty lower ceiling but greater chance of busting due to where they are on development, and the fact that dmen are incredibly hard to predict.
When these opportunities come up you NEED to look at them hard because it seems to me, the winners of the deal are those that get the young core player: Thornton, Seguin, JMFJ, Hamilton, etc.
For an organization still thin on high end talent - if the deal can be made without giving up a very small number of assets you need to protect - I jump at it easily.
Deals like this can be game changers and are worth the risk.
2017 1st+Kylington.
I do that. Give them KR too now to help on their blueline and take a 2nd back.

This is how I would classify the untouchables as of right now:
Tier 1: Roster players + future starter - not tradeable
Gaudreau - future franchise star
Monahan - future 1/2 center
Bennett - future 1/2 center
Giordano - current top 2 d-man (future top 4)
Brodie - current/future top 2 d-man
Hamilton - future top 2 d-man
Gillies - future starter
Tier 2: Future defense in the system - highly unlikely to trade
Kylington - future top 4 d-man
Andersson - future top 6 d-man
Tier 3: Future forwards that will make an impact for the team going forward if they continue a strong development. - will trade if the price is right.
Hickey - future top 6 d-man
Poirier - future top 9 forward
Klimchuk - future top 9 forward
Jankowski - future top 9 forward

I mean, I've heard Leafs fans suggest that JVR is on the table.

Your source is correct. They are in fact the only NHL team to not be in talks to trade for Drouin.

I'd rate Kylington above Hickey and Andersson too. From the sounds of it he's cleaned up his defensive game a huge deal, putting on some muscle, and he's obviously great offensively already. It's as if he could've been picked in the top 10 and we'd still have been very pleased with his progress to date.

Kylington:
Once projected top 5 pick, great skater, great shot, improving his strength and defensive game.
Hickey:
Named one of the highest risers of the 2014 draft. Great skater, great shot/one timer, physical edge to his game, good offensively and defensively.
2014/15 = 0.41 pts/game
2015/16 = 0.44 pts/game
Also selected to team Canada WJC on the shutdown pair.
Andersson:
2nd round pick, Great offensively, good defensively, physical edge to his game. Questionable skating and fitness levels.
2014/15 = 0.96 pts/game
2015/16 (so far) = 0.85 pts/game
Should be on same pace if not better this year in the OHL.
Out of those three prospects I would be most willing to part with Andersson. Really don't want to trade Hickey or Kylington.
2017 1st + Andersson
for
Drouin
OR
Hudler + 2016 2nd + Poirier/Klimchuk
for
Drouin
Acquiring a young elite talent would pay of huge for the Flames long term.

Your opinion of ranking Andersson last is fine, but that summary is entirely biased. It's more of a justification of your opinion than it is an honest evaluation of those prospects.

Gio's been an All-Star the last 2 seasons with a moderately reasonable contract (that was just signed) and a great scoring touch. All this coming from a defenseman - who also happens to be the captain.
Yeah, he isn't being traded.

It's like people don't realize the Blackhawks had Hossa, the Bruins had Chara, the Kings had Mitchell, the Penguins had Gonchar, the Red Wings had Lidstrom. Gio is a huge part of this team's FUTURE even if he's old.
I want Drouin but you don't build a championship stacking up a bunch of dangling wingers and 22 year olds. That's how you build the Edmonton Oilers.

no kidding, the youngest teams in the league are all at the bottom of the standings. Cup champs always have older vets in major roles
