What will Hudler return in trade?

Let us assume the Flames will move Hudler out before the trade deadline which is less than 60 days away.
What is a realistic expectation on return value?

The 30+ goal 70+ point Hudler, who had no restrictive clauses in his contract would have netted a 1st + IMO.
Too bad that ship has sailed.

for reference, here are some of last year's rentals/pending UFAs:
Devan Dubnyk - 3rd round pick
Cody Franson (+ Mike Santorelli) - 1st round pick + Brendan Leipsic + Olli Jokinen
Sean Bergenheim (+ 7th round pick) - 3rd round pick
Jiri Tlusty - 3rd round pick + cond. 6th round pick
Andrej Sekera - 1st round pick + Roland McKeown
Daniel Winnik - 2nd round pick + 4th round pick + Zach Sill
Jaromir Jagr - 2nd round pick + 3rd round pick
Kimmo Timonen - 2nd round pick + cond. 4th round pick
Antoine Vermette - 1st round pick + Klas Dahlbeck
Curtis Glencross - 2nd round pick + 3rd round pick
Jeff Petry - 2nd round pick + cond. 5th round pick
Chris Stewart - 2nd round pick

based on that, I'd want at least a 2nd and a decent prospect.

			conditional pick.
This is due to his nagging injury which limits his production and creates all sorts of risk to the purchasing team.

He seems unsure and making strange decisions.Going from what he had been doing past couple seasons to this year.... It just seems something is off. (Injury that has been nagging & he & flames not wanting to let him recover?). Or maybe he has been wanting to play given contract year, unfortunately given his play it is not helping his chance for a decent contract.

Really is too bad as it has been great over last few years seeing clips of his personality & what he has brought to the dressing room...
 - delivering pizza to Johnny in after game interview
 - his no shoe acceptance speech as NHL awards this past summer
 - what has seemed to be as great mentor for our young players
 - Etc....

It really depends on how things go between now and then.
If he can return to the lineup healthy and start racking up points, probably a 2nd. Otherwise maybe a 3rd.

He's a top-6 winger, a cup champion, trained in the Detroit system, and has the IQ and versatility to play with pretty much anybody.
 He's got value.

UFA forwards potentially available before the trade deadline
 Stamkos
 E. Staal
 Vrbata
 Okposo
 Ladd
 Eriksson
 Doan
 Tanguay
 Hudler
 Jones
 Versteeg
 Grabner

If you were a GM looking to add how would you rank that list, and where would Hudler fall on it.

If all were available, he would be 6th on my list. Stamkos, Ladd, Okposo, Eriksson, Staal in that order, then Hudler.

I think he is in that jagr category. Not quite a first but more than a second pursuing he gets healthy.

The way this season has been going, I don't think he's going to get much. Yeah in the long term he's a valuable player but for a team wanting results now, he doesn't fill the bill. Still there's suckers out there.

It all depends on the market. Last year the market was pretty good for the sellers. The year before it was pretty bad. It's tough to judge. There are some decent names potentially that will be available but what will teams be asking? If teams stay firm with asking prices maybe we can get a 1st. If teams start folding and setting the price low maybe its a 2nd. Jiri isnt having a great season though so that is going to hurt his stock. It's too bad he wasn't having a similar season to last year.

Is this draft so deep that teams will hold onto the 52nd pick in the draft at all costs? No team is trading young NHL players at the deadline anymore. If Hudler isn't injured, I think he can add something to someone. Calgary is trying to squeeze top line production out of a guy who's been more of a second liner his entire career.

An aging and now injured forward having a terrible statistical year? That's a fourth or lower pick.

At the risk of being a killjoy, it massively depends on the market. Cammy was getting us nothing of value 2 years ago, but last year Glencross(who had underperformed all season) was netting you a 2nd and a 3rd.
I think it also depends on what those in the 21-30 think that end of the draft looks like. If they don't see value in the pick they hold, they might decide to grab Hudler for a 1st because they know he is a proven 50 point player.

I personally think we should be looking for a 1st(very optimistic) or more realistically, a 2nd and a 3rd, similar to what we got for Glencross.

Can see him going for a prospect that becomes waiver eligible next year that a team doesn't want to lose for nothing. Someone like Jarred Tinordi who is on the cusp. Maybe we can also get a conditional pick depending on performance/team advancing in the playoffs.
