Like what Jones has brought this season, better than Glencross last year, but like Curtis time to trade him and bring back some assets. Him and Hudler have to go.

First thing to look at is teams with cap space. Most contenders (who would be logical buyers) are tight against the cap. At $4m, most would little to no interest in what Jones brings, probably still limited interest if we retained 50%, especially when you look at what else is available.
Only scenario I can see any deal involving Jones is if we take back money on an expiring deal and get a modest draft pick out of it. But my money is on Jones finishing year here and walking at years end.

Intangibles = magic sauce over used short hand expression to get out of having to say anything intelligent
They are things that cant be expressed on a stat sheet but can be described. Is he a leader? Is he tough? Does he stand up for team mates? Does he stir the pot?
To say DJ has 'intangibles' is nonsense. Having him on this team is a negative. Getting him off is addition by subtraction. With his ice time and first line time others would have been equally productive or better.
He will leave as an UFA because unlike GlenX - he has never been as productive nor does he contribute lots of hits, nor does he provide effective penalty killling.
Only an idiot would trade for him at this stage.

No but I don't think 2 goals or 5 goals reallly changes the point of the original post.

If we can get him resigned on a contract in the $1m-$2m range for a year, I'd be happy to see him back next year. He won't get another deal close to $4m and he probably knows that. I reckon with his family probably settled in Calgary he'd be happy to accept whatever the Flames offer. I like him, in a 3rd line role at best. I wouldn't mind seeing him re-signed. Nobody is trading for him, not to give up anything worthwhile anyway.
Hudler, Russell, Wideman and whatever we can get for Hiller would be my trade bait pieces. Add in Colborne, Jooris and Backlund as the next players you could flip.

2g, 5a in 37 games for 2015-16. Sorry, if we pro rate it for this year it would be a 4.43 goal season - LET'S KEEP HIM!

4th-line centre playing with plug wingers fails to score much. CP is astounded by this surprise development! Film at 11!
Look, you had a weak argument to begin with. You tried to strengthen it by pretending that Stajan's current rotten numbers represented a full season, and so made your argument even weaker.
Stajan isn't on the team in a scoring role, and his offensive numbers are pretty much irrelevant to whether he gets re-signed. I personally don't believe he will be, and don't think he should be. But that's not because he hasn't been scoring. It would have been a miracle if he had scored much given his opportunities so far.

No, but telling obvious lies about it does not support the point of the original post.

The team is almost guaranteed to be in position to draft one of Puljujarvi, Matthews, Nylander. That's a pretty good start.

Almost guaranteed, eh? Based on the current standings, the Flames could easily finish anywhere from 16th to 30th overall. They are four points behind Pittsburgh for 16th place, and five points ahead of Columbus for dead last.
I don't see how anyone can make any guarantees about the order of finish in the bottom half of the league this year.

I can. I don't have a crystal ball but I feel pretty confident. I'm happy with the progress over the past couple of seasons but this still isn't a very good hockey team.

I believe there are better options Jay. Anyway this thread is about Jones...he can go as well.

I don't see how this is even news. I don't know if Treliving is interested in extending him or not, I wont even offer an opinion on weather he should. But there is no way you even look at Hudler or Jones until Monahan and Gaudreau at settled, and maybe even until a Keep/Trade decision is made on Wideman.

Right... because a GM can't conduct contract talks with multiple players in parallel... even if just to find a ballpark of what the player wants. Sure it makes sense to sign Gaudreau and Monahan first, but doesn't mean he has to be linear about talking to other players.
Already been reported that they are have had some talks with Russell about an extension.

Of all the UFA's I feel Russell is the one they are most interested in and fortunately Russell has kind of taken a bit of a step back from last season so his price should be more reasonable as well the Flames should be more cautious especially given he is a guy that is not going to get better and what we see this season is the best the team will see from him going forward. If he wants to remain a Flame on a fair deal then sure get something worked out for four or less years. If he wants to cash in on free agency I'm happy to waive goodbye as the Oilers have proven that overpaying for middle pairing free agent defensemen is not a recipe for success.

Intangibles maybe, but when I think of Matt Stajan grit does not enter into my description of him.
