Right before the fifth goal Bennett got plastered from behind by Hall. Didn't complain to the ref, just took a number and got up, then got the puck and contributed to the goal. Third assist I think.
Bennett looks like Fleury out there. If he isn't scoring, he's an angry ball of hate. I'll take it any time any day of the week. Even if the scoring doesn't come right away, this kid is valuable. At worst right now, without points, he contributes as much as Paul Byron.
Oilers HF is gold tonight. They are ready to fire Schultz ("Norris") into the sun.
Really, it's not entirely Schultz' fault. He's not a good defender, he shouldn't be on the ice with Gaudreau in the first place. Everyone knows this. Yet he gets 20 minutes of even strength ice-time? Jeeze.
McLellan puts out Hall, Hendricks, Draisaitl, and Purcell with Schultz on the PP when they are up 3-1. That's just a recipe for disaster. Sure, if you're in a pinch and desperate for a goal go with that lineup, but defending a lead why is Schultz the only defender on the PP? Again, we all know he's not a good defender. It's obvious I'm using hindsight and no one would criticize that lineup if not for the SHG, but in terms of giving up a SHG, that type of lineup is the most likely to give one up.
But you can't even put all the blame on McLellan because what else is he going to do, sans playing Nurse 60 minutes, give Fayne and Nikitin that time? Gaudreau still scores at least 2 tonight against those guys anyways.
Give Schultz at most 15 minutes of even-strength ice-time against mostly the third and fourth lines, top unit PP time (preferably not as the only defender) and you've got yourself a serviceable player. I guess this is what Schultz wanted when he elected to sign with the Oilers, but the fault lies on management more than anyone else. Now he just looks broken, long gone from the player involved in the "Justin Schultz sweepstakes."
I'm sort of hoping he finds his way out of Edmonton and some other team can give him back his confidence and he ends up being a solid "number 4" just as another blemish on the Oilers.

Nah. He wanted NHL pay before he was ready for NHL play. Let him take the consequences.

It's pretty amazing that the team is right where it was a year ago despite their horrible start to the season. This home streak has been nothing but incredible and their December record is amazing as well (9-2-0). Not a surprise that it was that Dallas game on December 1st that started a great run ... overcoming that 3-0 deficit to win the game must have given the team a lot of confidence. Great to see.
Haven't been able to watch as many games live this year and that's a pity ... just a fun team to watch. Knowing that the cornerstones of this team are still years away from entering their prime is pretty incredible

did anyone catch the clip of Burke and Chiarelli during a break in the action last night. McTavish was sitting next to Chia, Burke was laughing and slapping Chia. Chia was either laughing or crying, it was hard to tell. McTavish just sat there!
Halls reaction on the second hit was funny. He easily could have gotten a holding, interference or to many men penalty. Just completely lost after a fairly routine hit.
How do they possibly leave JG wide open in front of the net like that? I don't understand.
Maybe they should get their best skater to shadow him all night, oh wait Hall likely was on that play. Brilliant game.
Stupid Oilers. The years of JG dominating the Oilers will be great, who would have guessed this "smurf" was going to be this good. Love this team.
Our 4th line and Sam were my favourite part of tonight's win. Great cycling down low and created good scoring chances.

With his 2 goals last night, Gaudreau leads the league for goals and points in December. But what is equally impressive is what the D has been doing. These are the leaders on D for the month:
