That's sort of my thought on it, too. Either you're so miserable and bored with your life, that you have time to spend being pissed off about inconsequential nonsense like this, or your life is so awesome that there is very little else to complain about and so something like this garners way more of your attention than it should.

Can't we just ask what people are celebrating? We could engage with our neighbours, perhaps talk like human beings, and recognize we're not so different after all.

I don't see why people can't just take merry Christmas or happy holidays as it comes. They are both just well wishes, if anybody has a problem with them they can pretty much #### off.

I think about 99% of people would agree with you. The arguing over it is silly because it's just 99 people talking about 1%

Well that's just it, right. Rather than start a flame war with a small minority, be inclusive. Make them feel welcomed by the community into a shared experience. Remind them that without Christmas, December is January.

I'm just saying why should it matter? Anyone with an IQ over 47 knows what I mean. I feel bad for people who get worked up over such trivial things, it must be exhausting to be offended all the time.

Yeah, but people don't respond well to 'get over it, it's not a problem'. They feel how they feel. And when you engage others on a personal level, ask them about their life etc, the reaction is not usually one of aggression. Responding to this in a more gentile fashion probably makes most people who had an issue realize how silly it is.

Tell someone to #### off and get over it will cause them to dig in their heels.

In my experiences everyone seems to respond positively to "Happy Festivus".

Of course not, but they should respond well to "merry Christmas" or "happy holidays". The message either of those convey is one of well wishing and holiday spirit. I stand by my earlier statement, if you can't accept my well wishes because I'm " not using the right words" then you can pretty much just #### off.

I'm not sure if that's a typo or not. Gentile or gentle both kind of work.

A religious group in Regina is getting a lot of attention for a Christmas billboard they've put up.

The sign by the Sikh Society of Regina reads "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year". It is located outside their temple on Princess Street.

Former president of the Sikh Society Kuldip Singh Sahota said his community is happy to embrace all religions and festivals.

"When you say Merry Christmas you wish the other person peace, love and prosperity," he said. "And that's what we want to tell the people."

Sahota said they've had a positive response to the sign so far.

He added that they hope it helps build the community relationship between the Sikh Society and their neighbours.

This should probably be in the WRGMG thread, but the rant suits here too:

I have no problem with people celebrating their own holidays however they want, as long as there are no expectations that I participate in the celebrating along with them. I find it annoying to be expected to celebrate Christmas because I'm a white Canadian guy. Really, I don't give a damn about Christmas. I've been in China for ten years, and Spring Festival is more meaningful to me than Christmas is. I'm not religious and I don't care about the holiday. Other Canadians and Americans here seem to think that I'm a grinch and to practically be offended by my absence of interest, but really I just don't see why I should be expected to participate in a holiday that's not important to me. I'm happy for others to enjoy it, but I don't want to feel pushed to participate in it. Not singing carols or wanting to make everything Christmasy around me doesn't make me a bad guy.

I think you just need to watch another Christmas movie and you'll be right back in the Christmas spirit!

I got a card pretty much out of necessity as the only nice card left, but I was disgusted by its wording.

"Happy Christmas."

Seriously, I'm fine with Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, but Happy Christmas is an abomination that needs to be stopped.

How you feel is probably at odds with their intentions. You feel pushed and annoyed, they're likely just happy and wanting to spread it.

I don't put up a tree or decorations, buy gifts (and ask others not to buy for me), sing songs or listen to the music, watch movies, check out lights, etc. I've never felt pushed though and likewise never been called a grinch. I usually just express that I'm stoked others are enjoying themselves and thank them for trying to include me when they do!

You get back what you give out usually.
