I don't want to go too Debbie Downer here (we won and I'm happy), but I want to see a couple of things change.
This team has to show up for the first period. We're lucky the score wasn't 3-0 ten minutes into the first, especially against a team like Dallas.
Secondly, the Flames have to start standing up for each other. Benn's hits on Brodie needed an answer and none was given. Reminded me of how we did nothing after the hit on Gio vs. Nashville. Is Calgary the team that just takes those hits and does nothing about it?

The team pretty much never showed up in the first all last season, I don't think it's changing any time soon.

I remember that 8 game winning streak in 05/06. The team got off to a rocky start and Regehr was injured. Once Rwggie returned we went on that streak, and Kipper (who was shakey at first) started to absolutely dominate again. We rode that streak to a 103pt season and the division title.
Also it was this time last year the Flames were on their 8 game losing streak that almost sunk our season. This year a 7 game win streak might save our season

At some point with the slashing and cheap stuff on JG and teams targeting our smaller guys, Hartley has to go to Ferland and say for this game alone, I want you to go psycho, beat people up, jump into the stands and beat a fan with a shoe, slew foot the goalie, punch out their star player.
Then we'll get you a TV interview where you make crazy eyes and threaten murder and mayhem if anyone touches our players again.

Plus for the early part of this season when we were horrible, we had a tendency to come out balls to the wall in the first, get the first goal or two, and then implode as the game went on. We've blown an embarrassing number of leads. Coming out strong just doesn't work for this team.

I agree to some extent. For me it is more so after Ramo makes a save and the shooter stands staring down at him.....I want to see the D man shoving him away and having a flame between Ramo and the offensive player.
With that said, we are on a streak and you need to play smart to win. When Brodie took one of his hist last night Ferland skated right over immediately challenging Benn. Not much more you can do, it was a very clean body check and Ferland made the smart move - challenge and get the hell away before you get called and the Stars tie the game on the PP.
If it were a dirty hit you can certainly get right in there and at worst, find yourself in offsetting penalties.

I am definitely in the camp that wants to see a guy like Benn get smashed when he takes runs at Brodie. Wideman sort of picked a fight with Sharp but that's not enough.

I missed the game cuz of kid's hockey.
Was it a clean hit?

I was going to guess it's a bunch of ex-pat oil people living in Dallas who recently got laid off haha.

For my money it was clean, but borderline. Good, smart hockey play by an elite player on the other team. Nothing more can be said.
Having said that, Stajan did pester him a little bit with a hack and a slash I believe. There doesn't always need to be a devastating hit in return, but a message needs to be sent, even a small one.
The dirty stuff against Johnny though should be addressed by Jedi negotiation tactics.

There were words, and chirping, and some slashes etc. after the hit from Brodie and Ferland and a couple others.
I was watching the Dallas feed and they were commenting on it.
So, no one 'stood up' and straight up fought Benn.....but after the Iggy-Benn tussle a few years back, and Benn arguably winning that fight....that may have been wise.

It was a good hit. Brodie was fine. Even if he hadn't been, no need to go fighting guys after clean hits.
Altogether, goaltending has improved to the point where it's at least passable and the defense is playing as would've been expected at the start of the season - the difference between a lottery team and 7 straight wins, right there.

The one I'm referring to was borderline at best. When you board a guy from behind with your shoulder going into his head, that's not a clean hit.

This hit?

or this hit

The second one does look offside.
