I'm probably alone in this, but I would love to see the Flames get Kadri. He is one of the best in the league at drawing penalties, and when you have JH, you can't have too many powerplays.
I realize that it would mean likely playing Bennett on the wing, but I am OK with that.

I assume they were looking at Bernier as he's one of the few realistically available goaltenders available mid-season. I see he let in 4 goals. Did he look bad in the process?

1st goal: Kucherov was allowed to walk in alone and roof a backhand - pass
2nd goal: Stralman scores a "this guy scored" goal through screen - pass
3rd goal: Blunden beats him farside after Polak goofed - Meh
4th goal: Screened high slot shot - Meh
OT goal: Namestnikov walks in and blasts one in 2 on 1 Meh
So three stoppable ones, but no real garbage ones like we usually see from Hiller. Better than Hiller, but not Ramo.

I'd be open to giving Bernier a try as long as the price wasn't too high to aquire him. He has been pretty mediocre in Toronto but before that he was a highly touted tender. Maybe a change of scenery could do him some good. He would be a free agent after next season so could buy us some time to find better options if he doesn't work out. Not sure what the Leafs would be asking for though.

Getting Bernier is a buy-low, sell-high strategy right now. And if something actually comes to fruition, there is no way Hiller or Ramo doesn't move in this scenario. We can't add without giving, so perhaps any negotiations are really just focusing on the "extra" to get Bernier, which IMO shouldn't be that much right now with his performance.

I dunno. He cleared waivers and played pretty well below average on his call-up. I'd have to think that Toronto is pretty close to 'whatever we can get' at this point with him. Especially with a coach that is near refusing to play him any more.

You think Calgary will add a Bernier and not get rid of a goalie?
Something has to give. You can't have Hiller/Ramo/Bernier/Ortio. Too much.

I'd think Hiller would be going back to Toronto in any deal for Bernier.
If the Leafs are at the point where they want to run with Reimer and Sparks for the rest of the season, they'll have to send Bernier down to the AHL. I don't see them carrying three goalies for any significant amount of time.
Hiller makes slightly more than Bernier, but he's only signed for the rest of the year, so if they've decided to pay a goalie over $4 million to play in the AHL, it might as well be a guy whose contract expires in a few months rather than over a year from now.
Also, because Hiller's contract is up at the end of this season, they might be able to move him at the deadline, or he could get claimed when they put him on waivers. Neither of those scenarios is likely this season with Bernier.
If Treliving wants to take Bernier off the Leafs' hands, I'm sure they'll take Hiller in return. Treliving can probably even swing it where he doesn't need to retain any salary.

If Toronto wants Hiller, they can absolutely have him. I doubt they want to take Hiller back, however.
You pick up Bernier and waive Hiller. Hiller will be gone next year, and rides pine somewhere this year. He wouldn't be throwing too much of a kink into what's happening right now unless he plays well in the AHL and forces them to make decisions between him and Ortio.

From Sportsnet talking about a Bernier for Hiller trade.
"The way Bernier is playing, however, Toronto might need to toss in another piece."

Get Bernier out of T.O and I think he'll rebound. He's not bad. Or at least he's not as bad as the Leafs make him out to be. With the Flames top brass in T.O to watch him last night I hope they're close to something. More than anything I just want to see a trade.

Keep in mind that at the time Johnson was 25, had been drafted 2nd overall, was two years removed from being an Olympian, and a year removed from a 42 point season. Who do you think is a comparable on the Flames?
Edit: Also, at the time Jeff Carter was regarded as damaged goods with an attitude problem.

They might not want to take Hiller back, but it's not like teams are likely lining up to offer them top prospects for the guy. If they want to move him out, they're probably going to have to swallow a bad contract coming back.

Can someone perhaps explain to me why they're so hesitant to give Ortio another shot and would bring in a fourth goalie? He wasn't great, but he got two chances. It's not like the other two were any better.

It's one of the great mysteries of Bob Hartley. If you want to believe the CP rumor mill, Ortio was lazy in practices..

Check his AHL stats and your question will be answered.

I'll just check his NHL stats which were pretty much the same as our two other crap goalies. Just with way less opportunity.
