This park is currently unique in that it is managed by the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation. It was their call to close the slides. In a few years, the park will revert back to The City of Calgary Parks department.

Not really. That's one of the reasons I find his support for cycling infrastructure so legit--he understands the logic behind safe, effective cycling infrastructure (as part of a comprehensive transportation network) without being an active cyclist himself.

I dont have a question, just a props to the planning department for the 17th Ave SE corridor redesign final plans.

Very good design and comprimise IMO. Should over time allow that area turn from undesirable for the middle class to affordable/desirable given its proximity to downtown.

The parking situation at Tuscany is pretty brutal. I am not sure what type of data was used to come up with a suitable number of parking stalls but it is way off. In addition to insufficient parking spaces, the majority of street parking nearby has been changed within the past month to be 3 hour parking stall. This effectively is giving people the finger who want to take advantage of park and ride facilities.

I am just trying to understand the motivation behind these moves. I have seen people counting foot traffic there before so it isn't as if the city doesn't know of the demand. Now, if you are not at the station at 6:30 am you are not getting a spot.

What is the city doing to encourage more people to take the train by making parking eaiser?

The problem is that you can have unlimited parking at the end of the line and it will fill up and then be under utilized after the next station gets built. So there needs to be balance. The real solution was killed by Nenshi after he got elected. Charge market value for parking. Price the lot such that it fills up at 8 instead of 6:30.

It was a glorious few months when I paid for parking at somerset.

I agree. I don't believe that parking should be free. When I utilized a train station, I took a shuttle bus to the station. It cost me nothing. If I wanted the added service of having my car available at the station, I would have no problem paying for that privilege.

I love free parking. I am a early bird, and don't like paying $2000 in parking each year (if my memory serves me right).

You prefer to sleep in and spend the extra time to take a shuttle bus, good on you! However, that is your choice.

The choice should be trading convenience for money. Not getting up early vs later. It's like you are assigning a moral value to getting up early. It was only $60 per month so less than 1k per year. Right now by virtue of you being able to start work earlier you get free parking while others find alternatives.

This is a poor distribution of a public good. If you wanted to keep it free some sort of lottery system would be a more equitable way of distributing the good.

Truthfully, I don't currently take the train.

But - isn't there still VIP parking you can purchase? Doesn't that make this who discussion a moot point? Buy that parking and show up anytime.

Besides, $60 a month will hurt a lot of people's wallet more than you know, even if they can afford a car to park in the lot.

If your time is not worth the money then taking the bus makes sense. Subsidizing people who can alter their work schedules does not.

You're supposed to be going to Crowfoot to park, not Tuscany. It was intentionally built with a low amount of parking to discourage people from using it like Crowfoot was built for.

Well, sure I would love something for free. I disagree that the City should provide free parking at the train stations. If someone taking the train would like to rent a piece of pavement in the lot while doing so, then I think they should pay for that.

If my choice results in me having a longer ride, why shouldn't your choice result in you paying for the convenience?
