I'm surprised that Andersson didn't make the preliminary roster.
I thought he looked very good during the Lake Placid camp over the summer.

Nice to see Ollas-Matsson on the list. I hope he makes the final team.

Should Andersson or Kylington be on the roster over Aho, Lagesson, Larsson, or Pettersson is the real question and debatable. Arguably those 4 are better 2 way players than Andersson or Kylington.

Forsling would be a lock to make that team after his performance at the WJC last year
There always seems to be some controversy when Sweden picks their international teams. They seem to put an emphasis on roles and team building. I can't say that I disagree with the approach, but it does often end up that some really good players get left off. I also think they do try to reward players that stay in Sweden whenever possible.

All eight defensemen invited to Sweden's camp are left handed shots which makes Andersson's omission even more puzzling.

I would actually prefer to have Kylington stay in Stockton at this point in time anyways as by all accounts he seems to be putting things together down there.

Another big shock is the Americans didn't invite Kyle Connor or Jack Roslovic, both Winnipeg Jets draft picks.

I can understand maybe skipping on Kylington, but everything I see tells me Rasmus Andersson would one of the best players for Sweden.

Ah well. I hope it just spurs those two players on to prove how big of a mistake it was to skip on them this tournament.

Glad that Mattson got an invite at least, hope he makes the team. Seem like maybe Sweden is going for a bigger team built to shut down other teams.

Although, that could still be the issue for Kylington and Andersson. Naming them would have pushed it to 9 North America-based players, and they probably don't want to have half their roster be players who have left Sweden.
I suppose they might be just biased enough so that a tie goes to the guy playing locally. Or maybe it just means those guys have had longer looks because of proximity.

For Walman and Blackwood:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
BOS prospect Jeremy Lauzon (D) of Rouyn-Noranda added to Team CAN camp as is FLA prospect (goalie) as Samuel Montembeault of Blainville.

Watch for Eugene Svechnikov, He's supposed to be a top 5 talent for 2017 and folks are already touting him as better than his older Brother Evgeny.

The hype train is calling him the Russian Connor McDavid.

edit: Andrei not Eugene.

Hmmm. Maybe it's the younger brother of them both, Andrei people are gearing up for, someone has said on Reddit Andrei is the next big thing since OV and is draft eligible in 2018. Trying to dig up some stuff on them but coming up dry on the preliminary google hunt.

Cannot find anything on Eugene.

Most likely because Eugene is the English translated name for Evgenvi.

There's a generational player every draft it seems. How lucky for hockey fans the world over.

Well then, I guess I get to watch Wings pick and older brother play for Russia. Still a big fan and he's off to a great start this year for Cape Breton

Forgot to post this, Karnaukhov announces he will not play at the WJC:

http://flamesnation.ca/2015/12/7/pav...medium=twitter

It sounds like he is keeping his IIHF options open for future tournaments.

Mark Masters @markhmasters
Canada's starter has arrived; Mason McDonald says some pressure is off now that he knows he'll be in net Boxing Day

Mark Masters @markhmasters
McDonald on Blackwood suspension: "Kind of a bizarre situation, but it opens up an opportunity for me & I’ll look to take advantage of it.

Hickey needs to stand out if he wants to make the team. Looks like Hicketts is the lowest on the depth chart at this point.
