McKenzie Blackwood suspended 8 games first 2 games of WJC if he makes team Canada

			http://www.tsn.ca/blackwood-suspende...f-wjc-1.406183
This should solidify Mason McDonald as the starter for Canada

Edit: apparently his suspension would only last first 2 games of tournament.

He hasn't been named to the team yet, wonder if he gets dropped from the roster and another goalie gets added.
If McDonald gets injured in game 1 or 2 it would leave them in a bad spot.

Have to think they had a 3rd name pegged to go, just in case there was an injury before the tournament started.

Great opportunity for McDonald now though

That was brutal. I'm quite surprised the player didn't lose it and start punching the goalie. I sure would have.

Chance for McDonald to shine, if he plays great in the first 2 games they'll probably leave him in no?

A HC rep (can't remember who) said exactly this on the Fan960 the other day. They have a third just in case, even the player doesn't know. Cross that bridge when we get there type of scenario. Looks like they got there.

This is the event that will win the Flames the cup down the road. Mckenzie gets suspended. Mcdonald becomes Canada's #1 goalie. Wins the tournament. The tournament win propels him up as the #1 goalie prospect in the world. Goes on to become the Heat, then Flames #1 goalie. Solidifies himself as an NHL goaltender, stabilizing the Flames' net for over a decade. Wins Vezina trophy. Flames win the cup. Calgary has a parade.
 The end.

He isn't out of the WJC. He is suspended for the 2 first round robin games.
The roster size for the WJC permits teams to carry 3 goaltenders for the tournament and still carry 7d and 13f. Canada has just been avoiding doing so the past 2 tournaments.

He could still technically be Canada's #1 goaltender for the tournament and is allowed to play in all the pre-tournament games for Canada.

He doesn't deserve to be on the Team Canada roster. They should send a message to him by totally chopping him from the team. That's disgraceful, could have done some serious damage.

Yeah.. I'd be a complete hypocrite giving this a slide while showing a lot of vitriol towards the Prust spear. *shakes head a bit*

When I first saw this my eyes lit up and I was like "oh dayuuuum" but you're 100% right that it's not acceptable at all.

I'd love to know what was going on inside his mind. I suppose it was frustration, anger, rage.. sure looked like he was pissed right off.

..

Do goalie 'antics' get a bit more leeway with the general hockey fan?

Not sure. Damn what a hack.

Maybe it's the grainy video, or maybe I'm old school, but I think those acting appalled are going soft. A game or two sure, but I don't see an eight game suspension there.
