No buyout is required for retired players UNLESS acquired via UFA in the same season.
Unless Ryan signed him this past summer, I do not take a cap hit.

He was not a UFA, no fine.

It looks like Zhamnov is going to hang them up this week as well. Sounds like he will report to camp, fail the phsyical and retire at that point. We will wait for the official announcement but that would appear to be what's going to happen.

The Wild are living in fear of any stories involving Peter Bondra.

This is going to be an interesting time in the CPHL.. All of these retirement coming out now should cause a bit more trading.

There likely won't be an official announcement as Zhamnov is still under contract for the next 2 seasons. If he retires he forfeits the cash, if he reports a couple times a year for a physical and fails, insurance covers the contract. According to our rules, he should be eligible until he "offiically retires".

Yeah its an interesting situation to be sure. Listening to Maher last night that's exactly what he said will happen - so Zhamnov will remain elgigible for two more years. Great news for Drew.

Didn't he sign a 4 yr deal back in the summer of 2005?

I think he may be under contract for 3 more years.

According to the Boston Globe and other reports, he has 2 years 8.2M total remaining. It was originally a 3year 12.3M contract.

^ My bad then.

I thought it was a 4 yr, 16M deal.

I have been thinking and hoping that all along.

Why would a guy walk away from his contract? I think we can all know what happened to Brad Werenka.

I can see Zhammy being able to be fit enough to push his wheel barrel of cash around for a couple years yet.
