Even with a plea deal he gets almost 16 years. Judge went over and above the recommended sentence by prosecutors.

Jared Fogle was sentenced to 15 years, eight months in prison Thursday for possession and distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines for commercial sex with a minor.

Judge Tanya Walton Pratt announced the sentence for the former Subway pitchman in federal court in Indianapolis.

The sentence is more than the 12 1/2 years that prosecutors agreed to seek in a plea deal. Pratt said the advisory sentence range of 135 to 168 months "does not sufficiently account for the defendant's criminal conduct."

Federal prisoners must serve at least 85 percent of their sentences.

"Federal judges do not sentence based on emotion or public sentiment," Pratt said. She added, "The level of perversion and lawlessness exhibited by Mr. Fogle is extreme."

She described Fogle, 38, as having had a "privileged" upbringing before becoming "obsessed" with sex and minors. Pratt talked about Fogle's journey from being morbidly obese while at Indiana University to losing weight and being discovered by Subway.

"What a gift to have such a professional windfall fall in your lap," Pratt said.

Pratt said she believes Fogle is sincere in his remorse and took into account the $1.4 million in restitution he has paid.

Good for the judge for going above the sentencing recommendation.

I personally feel that with these kind of crimes, the sentence should be forever, they go there, they die there, they're buried there.

You can't fix these creeps until you can find a 100% certain way to shut off their sex drive and their compulsions.

While his defense attorney kept saying that his crime was with adolescents and not children, this creep was viewing porn and getting off on images of preteens, it was probably only a matter of time. He it sounds like recognized a 6 year old girl based on a torso ppicture.

The guys a creep and a scumbag and he's gotten what he deserves and good for the judge for being completely unsympathetic to his in court whining.

My point is that if homosexuality is a normal thing, just brain chemistry, can't help it etc.....what about pedophilia? Is that not brain chemistry as well?

Your missing that you don't have to act on the brain chemistry.

So while I agree that being attracted to children might be genetic. Acting out that attraction is a choice and therefore should be condemned. What your saying Is like saying rape is okay because the rapist was attracted to women.

So yeah acting on it should be condemned, and I think the parallel you draw is valid.

Sex drive is so very basic to us as humans, imagine having a sex drive that was illegal. There's been a few really good videos about being homosexual in Uganda or other places where it's illegal and gets you ostracized or killed by society, it's brutal for them.

That's how it is for pedophiles, well except that it being illegal is of course a good thing. But ideally finding a way to cure them or some way they can find help to live their entire lives celibate would be better than treating them as scum, before they become offenders.

There are drugs that can be prescribed that basically kill all libido. I wouldn't call it a cure as people can always stop taking the meds, but I would like to think that if I had those tendencies, I would volunteer to take those drugs.

No sorry, they deserve to be treated like scum. Child predators whether it's their fault or not, should be eradicated from society. I know it's fashionable to play the mental disorder card for every single horrible action nowadays.... basically just a form of blame shifting. I don't care if you cannot control it, I don't care if your born with it. You are still a disgusting piece of filth for having the thoughts, even if it is genetic.
