I got an automated phone call from Florida, too, saying my name was randomly selected to win a free cruise in North America. Then they told me to stay on the line, and then I hung up.

I've won several!!
Actually, a friend of mine was looking to get out of town for a bit (broke up with her boyfriend), so she called. Usually the call-back number is a toll number where they charge horrific rates, but in this case *THAT* wasn't the scam. They told her that (A)she would have to pay for the transportation to the boat which was down in Florida, (B)there was an $800US "processing fee". Despite this, she actually went... of course she got the worst room on the boat, but hey, who cares? When on a cruise, you don't spend time in the room. She said the pool on-board was great and there was lots to do.....
So it's not as bad a scam as one might think... it's a way for the company to sell off the rest of the cheap rooms on the boat. I just hate all the phone calls. I was being called once a day for three weeks. I called the phone company and was told that they would change my phone number if I wanted, for a nominal fee of course....

If it only cost $800 for it, then that's not a bad deal then. How do you know if it's legit or one of those $200/min scams though.

Haha, was going to post the same thing today...
My fiance and I both got a call that we'd won a free cruise...only hitch was I had to pay $300pp PLUS taxes and surcharges for an 8 day cruise. Of course they wanted this non-refundable $$ before you can confirm any dates etc.
Anyways here is the number they called from...(347) 761-3022 for me and (718) 228-0774. Dont answer. This is why we rarely enter the stupid draws. We went to the Sun + Salsa festival and entered there.

I once filled out one of those 'win a free month at world health club' things. When I mentioned it to a friend he told me that he won it and then when he went there to work out they constantly harassed him about buying a membership.
I figured that if I won I'd just decline it. Not only did I win, but I won once or twice a month for about three years. They'd just keep calling and calling and calling even though I told them I wasn't interested and to stop calling. Boo-urns to World Health Club.

Yeah they used to tell me how to sell these when I did travel stuff. It doesn't include airfare or taxes or anything. I guess they use it to fill up spaces that would otherwise be empty.. empty space = lost revenue. Even if the space itself is free, the person would still buy booze and spend $$. Though when they told me about it they also had it so you had to buy the flight through their agency so they made $$ on the flight.

Hey don't trust ANY phone calls from Florida...lol...No matter what I do I keep getting calls for an Orlando vacation package at least 8-9 times a week. They come from the same number so I caller id of course. But yeah I got one of the free cruise things, and also "lifetime" subscriptions to magazines.
