has there ever been a coach with such a long term destructive effect on a team as Roy? I don't even think Torts is a comparable, he just made them suck for one season, but didn't have a hand in completely disassembling what should have been a young, quickly rising roster.
and Roy's not even ever mentioned on coaching hot seat lists, because everyone knows how entrenched he is. those days that I feel mad about the Flames coaching situation, I just think of Colorado and instantly feel better.

I wonder if we could get Jonathan Drouin out of Tampa. He's being used as a 3rd liner.

Drouin's inability to find success in the NHL is kinda blowing my mind.

Jon Cooper doesn't seem like a Drouin fan. The guys he plays ahead of him is strange at times. Maybe they just want him to learn the defensive side of the game and bring him along slow but seems like it could back fire. Then again maybe it will pay off.

If this is true, hopefully BT reads the tea leaves and realizes this team needs to continue rebuilding, not adding to the mess. Trade Russell, Hudler and Wideman for whatever draft picks and prospects you can get and move on.

I'd actually be fine with that. A strong draft and trading our UFA's is probably more beneficial than squeeking into the playoffs. Probably not a popular route but growing pains usually have to take place.

Judging by how Treliving wanted to try anyone but Ramo this summer, I think he fully realizes the Flames are going no where till they get a starting goaltender. Maybe in the off season, Cam Ward will be the backup till Gillis/MacDonald pan out.
so, I doubt he would do any moves for "now" until he gets that goaltender.

Much like Benn, Duchene looked like he was going to take the next step after the Olympics, just hasn't happened with him.

I really hope you're right. Team isn't going anywhere without an upgrade in goal and I don't believe we can afford the assets to get one without robbing Peter to pay Paul. Gillies/McDonald are our best bets but they are years away. Time to take our medicine, now is not the time for "hockey trades".

Would a Backlund + Russell + Poirier + D prospect like Culkin/Morrison/Kulak + 2nd get the Avs listening??
We overpay to a degree here for sure but Duchene is a consistent scorer good for anywhere between 50 - 70 points having reached both of those totals twice already. Gives the Avs a lesser replacment pointwise but a reliable two-way center in Backs, defensive help that they are seeking as well as a good forward prospect which is why the 2nd rounder isnt a first.
We roll with this as our top 6
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bennett - Duchene - Frolik
He definitely is an interesting player to target.

You never know. When we traded our vets at the end of the 2013-14 season, we went on a bit of a run. Not saying that will happen if we make moves now but what we are currently doing isn't working. I liked the quote from Bobby Mac on how the flames weren't sure what direction they were going in. Unless they do something now, I'd venture the direction is down.

I really can't see a scenario where Duchene is traded and there's not a 1st round pick going to Colorado. They would want quality over quantity so I don't think your deal would be what they would want. I think you're looking at 1st+Poirier at the minimum.

They truly are not managing this pick the best way which is shocking when you see guys like Palat and kucherov and even the undrafted Johnson.
I dont even wanna think what they would be asking for Drouin though, way too early for the jury to be out on him yet and his skillset and ceiling are still super high. He needs to find his scoring touch like he started finding in Halifax playing with Makinnon, they should play him with Stamkos IMO, he has the pace in his game to keep up with Stammer and is still a better passer then finisher so playjng with a shooter like that might open up opportunities for him that he just won't see on the 3rd line.

Insider trading:
Duchene's name is out there.
Avs contacted Senators about Duchene, who are intrigued by the idea
Brian Murray let all GMs know he is willing to make a deal
Senators are willing to trade a defenceman not named Karlsson.
Can't see them moving Methot
Any team that takes a defenceman from Ottawa will likely need to take Colin Greening's contract as well.
Teams are calling Columbus about Ryan Johansen
Blue Jackets aren't shopping him and doubtful they have any interest in moving him
If they were going to consider a trade it would be multi-piece
Habs will likely consider moving Tinordi for a 2nd round pick
Blackhawks will have a surplus of d-men once Keith and Rozsival come back from injuries (expected this week)
Rundblad and Daley might be casualties.

The sad truth of it for sure. That's why ultimately I hope the trades we make this year are ones that recoup picks and prospects like someone said early, this would be a fruitful year to do it:
Hudler - 20-30 1st rounder / 50-60 2nd rounder / B forward prospect
Wideman - Couple of mid 2nd-4th round picks
Russell - 2nd round pick
Smid - 3rd or 4th round pick
Raymond - Hot garbage/stuck with him :/
Bollig - Good playoff guy 5th rounder
Hiller/Ramo - Team might give up a 4th for either goalie depending on injuries/need
Jones - 3rd round pick + C prospect
Stajan - 2nd round pick + B prospect
We could rake in one 1st rounder , two to three 2nd rounders, five + 3rd/5th rounders and three or so prospects for the farm.

Agree about Hudler, Wideman and Russell. If we can get any value from those guys trade them. In even 2 years this team could be a serious contender like Chicago or Anaheim if we figure out the goaltending. Do what it takes to get a top tier guy. We have a lot of pieces.
