Pretty sure my grandpa and great grandpa fought in WW1 and WW2 so we could have freedom and not to restrict people to fit into some morons ideals. Like Brett Wilson who seems to be heading this up. Maybe he should focus on not ending up on the dirty every second week.

I voted yes, but I didn't really like the question.

Do lights or wreaths devalue Remembrance day? No. I don't think those that are doing it are deliberatly doing it to be dicks.

That being said, I struggle to understand the excitement to rush headlong into Xmas. I also don't understand why people can't wait till Nov 12.

The amount of anger towards what other people do (that have no bearing on them) is simply astonishing.

In all fairness, I don't know one soldier that didn't/doesn't like a good drink special. I didn't drink all those $0.50 glasses of draft at The Grant for my health.

Not disrespectful, kind of cringe-worthy, but understandable.

I love Christmas. Already thinking about it, probably going to set up soon.

If I put up my tree today instead of the 12th, it won't impact my ability to pay my respects and partake in a moment of silence.

Thought I'd post this FWIW. My brother's FB status today. He served in Afghanistan twice, and was fairly severely injured on his second tour.

"Alright a couple things keep popping up on my newsfeed that bug me. First: No Veteran I know gives a sh*% if you put up your Christmas lights already. You can still show respect to veterans by wearing a poppy and going to a parade somewhere. It just makes sense to get those decorations up before it snows. I just think it's weird if you turn them on this early, but not disrespectful.
Second: Ignore the posts about not using pins other than what the poppy comes with. Use whatever you want, as long as it's not some nazi/ISIS, or anti war pin. Most real veterans are just happy you're wearing a poppy.
Anyone complaining about this petty stuff probably isn't a real veteran anyways."

Really Christmas decorations shouldn't be put up until December at the earliest. Has nothing to do with Remembrance day or veterans or those killed in wars.

I think this reads better.

I know lots of veterans that are against it and vocally against it.

I am not sure that it's disrespectful, but I do find it kinda gauche in general. We don't need to be celebrating "Christmas" for 2 months. I can understand people putting stuff up when it's better weather. I can understand craft stores putting stuff out now (handmade stuff takes time to put together).

But I sure wouldn't be upset to have Christmas kept to just December.

Voted yes, but is is a very very mild yes vote. Bordering on indifferent.

Don't know how to properly convey why right now but I'll get it out there soon-ish.

What's the ratio for on base housing decorations with Remembrance Day being the dividing line? I'm genuinely curious. I'm friends with a military family (I think that makes me a Lt. General or something on the internet) and while he (Infantry) never says anything on the issue but decorating before Nov 12 really sticks in her craw. It may have to do with living on base and knowing people who didn't make it back from Afganistan. I dunno.

Our veterans fought and died for the right of Facebook whiners to tell people they can't/shouldn't do things, apparently.

I live in Calgary so there is no base housing. There is a guy I work with who has launched his annual Facebook/Twitter rant about the issue but, otherwise, it's a non-issue as far as I know.

Everyone has their own ideas about Remembrance and how they choose to reflect. None of them are wrong; however, I do resent the constant whining on social media about what people can't or shouldn't do. One year it was the pin in the poppy had to be the Legion pin; last year it was the white poppy thing; and this year it's the Christmas displays. I can't believe people get so worked up over it.

Both need to be toned down big time. I don't mind Christmas, just not two months of it.

Decorations are one thing but Christmas music before Dec 15? We need boots on the ground right now to defend our homeland from this.

If anything, it honors what they fought for. Freedom to celebrate.

I voted no because my Christmas tree was up before Halloween. My wife does it. She is from the Philippines and there they start celebrating Christmas around September. I always give her a hard time about it only because my kids sit around the Christmas tree and sort their Halloween candy it's funny and sad at the same time.

Somewhat related- has anybody seen these for sale at a retail store in Calgary? I know I can buy them online, but that means I likely won't get it in time.
