Man, it's been a frustrating couple weeks. I actually feel like they've played much better the last two games, but every puck ended up in our net.

As far as the "which of us are the true fans" debate. It's less fun to watch when they are loosing, true. But I enjoy the up's and down's.

Two ways to look at this game.

1) Be scared about being embarrassed tonight to a rival. Sure, that sucks if they beat us again - totally disheartening if they blast us.

2) Just look forward to the Battle of Alberta. Flames should come out with a heck of a lot more effort than in their first meeting. They got embarrassed losing to not only a rival, but one that has been the laughing stock of the NHL for the last 10 years. Should be a very physical and entertaining game.

Like I mentioned in another thread, as a fan I will still support them without blinking an eye if they finish 30th this season. It is a rebuild, and as far as rebuilds go, this team hasn't experienced any real rebuilding pains. Maybe this season they do. I just don't want this organization to ever be continually embarrassed by either the Oilers or the Canucks. Makes me dread these games a little now, to be honest, but at some point the Oilers will start being competitive and there will be stretches (but hopefully not entire seasons) where they Oilers just lay a beat-down on the Flames. That was why the Battle of Alberta was so intense.

Hopefully this losing period - whether it is about to end soon, or lasts for most of the season - just helps to build character. I do think that players develop better in a winning environment, but sometimes a big dose of adversity helps build character. Might be good for the organization in the long run (I hope).

At any rate, I just enjoy watching this team get built and having the next core develop and grow as NHL players. Thinks look pretty lousy right now, but there is still a nice core being built here, and if worse comes to worst, then this team will just add another top prospect to this future core.

With that being said, I hope the Flames come out and obliterate lose losers tonight in front of their fans.

I feel like the Flames have been having rebuild pain since they traded Joe Nieuwendyk.

The Flames have been a pretty bad team since the 90's. A couple good seasons but always just outside what would be considered an average team.

I'll still support the team but this gets old. The Flames can't seem to put together a few quality seasons in a row..

For me, this is not the debate. It is more like who are the obnoxiously over-reactive fans, and who are not.

Anyhow, I expect a win tonight. This slump of ineptitude is going to end at some point. But regardless of what happens, it's Halloween, and I intend to enjoy it.

I am looking forward to this game. This is another opportunity to take a strong step forward as they should be pretty pumped to play in the battle of Alberta.
How this group responds in games like these will go a long way in determining how the season will go. I see this playing out two ways- one way we come out flying with a lot of emotion and walk the fine line to play hard and the second way we either come out flat and not match the Oilers intensity.

Lets go Flames!

The real Flames show up tonight. They win 114-1. Naturally, McDavid scores the only Oilers goal. And the broadcast crew doesn't shut up about for 3 hours.

As rebuilds go.., seems we are still missing a couple key pieces. I wouldn't be overly disappointed if we finished 30ish. These guys gave us something to cheer for last season when they could have just mailed it in. I think if we struggle this season it gives management a better Idea if this is the right group of players moving forward.

I don't get it, Ramo and Hiller contributed to our success last season whether we like it or not. We made the second round of the playoffs. This season we are 11 games in and all of a sudden we are doomed and our goalies aren't NHL caliber? I hate the fact they've been sub par but its not like the guys playing in front of them are helping the cause.

The people on here already giving up should be ashamed. I get it, you want to vent and there hasn't been a lot of hope to build on but this is our team. If we give up on them because it seems they've given up on the season then we are no better than they are. As far as I'm concerned they haven't given up and we shouldn't either.

4-3 Flames in OT.

Calgary plays easily it's best game of the season, out shooting the Oilers 40-18. Ramo lets in 2 weak goals in the last minute and the Oilers tie it up. Gaudreau is credited with the OT winner after he deftly banks a shot off of McDavid's front two teeth and into the net.

I am so confident in tonight's game that I took Karri Ramo in my Fanduel pool tonight.

...It had nothing to do with the fact that he's the cheapest starter... at all... I swear...

Go Flames?

I understand what you mean, but I see it a little bit differently.

For me anyways, the 90's was all about being a farm team. I always felt that if any young player turned out really well, it would just be a matter of time before he was traded away when the Flames could no longer afford said player.

I stuck it out then, but I definitely wasn't as passionate. This rebuild for me is vastly different than that one. I feel as the young players become very good, they get retained and added to 'the core'. It is much easier to become attached and emotionally invested in watching prospects develop - even if it is a terrible season.

I totally understand your sentiments, however, and wouldn't criticize them. One might say that all 30 teams in the NHL are always in a constant state of rebuilding - more importantly now than ever under a salary cap, with even a Stanley Cup championship team having to continually rebuild their roster the day after they win the cup. Guess it really just depends on how you look at things and define your parameters.

I don't care if the Flames literally lose every single other game this season.

As long as they beat the Oilers.

This is a development season, and I don't care about their record, but losing to the biggest losers in hockey history is not acceptable.

With how pathetic the Pacific Division is as a whole, a win tonight, and the Flames are within 4 points of a playoff spot.

Considering the start the Flames had thus far, that would be something huge that they could plaster in the dressing room. To hell with all the problems thus far, they'd be within striking distance of putting themselves back on track.

Fairweather Flames fans here are adorable. You had one of the most entertaining teams in the LEAGUE to watch last year, one of the best feel-good stories I've seen in nearly 40 years of watching hockey, and now barely a month into the season you're already dumping on your team and giving up.

Hilarious.
