I honestly think it's a much higher percentage play, at least for the Monahan and Bennett lines, to circle it back to the defence if they can't find an entry rather than dump and chase. Like Russian style. They're more suited for that kind of possession game.

I think a Wing would literally need to take his skate off and try to stab someone with it in order to get a penalty called.
Exaggerating quite a bit, they haven't been dirty or anything, but I'm really not sure what the refs are seeing.
