Personally I think Monahan is a great young player but I also think this might be the best he's going to be. Just IMO.

I personally think we have only begun to see what Monahan is capable of doing. In fact from last year to this year is already a huge step up from what I've been watching. Sky is the limit and I for one won't be giving up our future 40 goal captain any time soon.

Spector said on the FAN today that Monahan is as untouchable as they come so fans can stop speculating he would be part of the return.
I think it probably costs Bennett, Hudler, Russell, 1st for Stamkos. That is an insane package but that is a top 5 player just entering his prime years. Tamp gets long term Daley relief and a dynamic young player to grow with Drouin. They also get a top 6 forward that Yzerman is familiar with and a top 4/5 D that plays a heart and soul game along with a first.
Calgary gets a true superstar to pair with Gaudreau for what we assume is the next 6-8 years

Teams who win cups nowadays have homegrown talent as their top 3-4 players, and secondary players on ELCs who are outperforming expectations. To be legit cup contenders we need Monny, Johnny, Brodie/Hamilton to become true stars and the next crop of talent to graduate and start providing secondary scoring (Bennett, Poirier, Klimchuk, etc). Not sure how mortgaging this next wave of prospects would help, even if it landed Stamkos. By the time the Flames are contending Stamkos will probably be starting to come out of his prime and it would probably throw our cap structure out of wack.
Stay the course.

Stamkos is arguably already starting to decline. He's been playing well below a point per game since about March of 2014. This is an example of the name being bigger than the player. He wasn't even the best player on his own team last season, let alone top 5 in the league.

If you could get Stamkos without gutting the future, I would say you do it. If it cost you Bennett and a couple veterans that don't look long term, it's a no brainer. You hope that Bennett turns into Stamkos, so you get what you want out of this deal. I think this would be a great fit long term as well.
Long term your future at center would look like Stamkos, Monahan, Jankowski and Arnold. Hells yes to that! Guys with speed, skill and size! What is not to like?

Only an oiler fan would want the Flames to trade Monahan and Gaudreau....
maybe McDavid and RHN for Stamkos!

If we're being honest with ourselves, this is infinently more horrible than what I originally posted. I believe Stamkos centering Bennet would be amazing. He's a top 5 talent in the world.

That's a champion post right there...you're not even trying any more. Are you going to start talking about your expensive watch next? I mean isn't there an oiler board you can go to like www.suckuntilyouregood.com or something?

lol I wouldn't trade Gaudreau straight up for Stamkos, let alone Monahan and a first on top of it.
Get outta here, Closeted Oilers Homer.

Instead of bad posts like this, refute it. Explain why it wouldn't be a good deal instead of acting like a child. I personally think Stammer in Calgary would be amazing. Top 2 goal scorer in the world, centering bennett. It would be a beautiful sight to see.

Are you still acting like you're a Flames fan?
We've had much better efforts from Oiler fans pretending to be Flames fans, you can't even spell Bennett correctly, your game is weak.
GTFO.

The deal would be Stamkos + 1st for Monahan and Gaudreau. This is all of course under the assumption that he would sign. I personally think he would. Stamkos is what we hope Monahan will be someday.

We also have 5 more years of RFA Monahan and Gaudreau, who combined probably won't be making what Stamkos will next season.
And I don't think Gaudreau is really that far off offensively from Stamkos right now.
We also know that Stamkos isn't even trusted defensively by his coach to play centre on his own team.

Typo, look one post above yours for correct spelling if we want to really argue these semantics all day.

Because you're talking about trading two of our best players for an upcoming UFA and drooling about it like you would be happy the Flames got fleeced.
Stop trying to get a rise from true Flames fans.

Yea, still no.
Gaudreau might be better than Stamkos as early as this year. While being 4 years younger, and not a pending UFA that will get at least $10M per year.

BZZZT wrong. They're not even remotely the same type of player.
That proposed deal is outrageous, egregious, and preposterous.
But don't stop, you're adorable. Keeping the Thursday afternoon entertaining at least.
