O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I really don't see Columbus as a fit. The only expiring contract of value is Bourque, and he has a limited no-trade clause. He won't waive that to come to a team that would bury him in the minors (which we all know is what would happen).
Likewise Dallas has Niemi and Lehtonen, and a good young D core.
Third option? This is a puzzle that I think, at the end of, I will end up being impressed with Treliving.

Russell has the highest trade value (outside of top 3) because of his contract.
Hard to figure out Wideman's value. He is over paid, but is a significant offensive contributor and could be very valuable to a team lacking scoring from the backend. He only has 1 year left after this so his contract should not be a killer.
Engelland has negative value because of his contract.
Smid is untradeable until he is able to play. Even then, seems likely he will have negative value.
I like Russell but see him as most likely to be the one moved if and/when something happens.

No, but I think they be happy to clear 2 or 3 million off the goaltending budget. Lehtonen could move in a swap.
I love Russell but I feel like the writing is on the wall and he won't be back. Wouldn't surprise me to see him moved for help at FW. Reichel is the right kind of target IMO. The Flames need another top six capable young LW one spot the Flames

I was listening to the NHL network today during Friedman's call and all he said when prompted was that the Flames could potentially trade a defensemen when TJ comes back. This tweet is out of context.
They were speculating since Duncan Keith went down and will be out for 4 to 6 weeks.
Although the more I think about it, I wonder if the Flames could pry Crawford away for a Dman, Hiller and/or Ramo and some scraps to sweeten the deal.
