Dougie Hamilton has been a massive disappointment so far. Maybe that's unfair? I think he probably needs to have his role reduced so that he can adapt, but that's difficult with Brodie on the sidelines.
|
Well he hasn't been great but has showed a bit of that potential. And to be honest the only ones who have shown up were Johnny and Frolik this season.

Always earned, never given is appropriate because this team hasn't earned anything more than a 1-4-0 team. If a puke loss against the Oil doesn't wake them up it won't matter who is in net or when Brodie gets back. Yuck.

Well, on the bright side, I would rather have them hit rock bottom now, than at game 70. I predict Ortio starts the next one, and runs with it.

I'm not worried about Hamilton either. It would be one thing if he was a standout bad spot ... but he's just part of the entire tapestry of #### right now. Hamilton is a 6-10 year solution, not a first quarter of this season solution.

Suck enough to miss the playoffs, but not enough to pick 1st overall. Pick guys like Rico Fata and Eric Nystrom 6th/10th overall. Then when they may suck enough to finish last, get screwed anyway. That would be the most Flames thing ever.

Have to agree with those who say Monahan has been off. Just seems hesitant whenever he gets the puck this year or flubs a weak shot. Small worry though compared to the whole team who looks terrible

Yep, that's pretty much what I think it looks like too. They don't look like they're having as much fun out there as they were last year. They're spending more time up in their own heads than they are in the moment of the game.

He better run with it because I think it's safe to say he'll have zero leash if he even slightly stumbles.

Biggest disappointment for me so far is monahan. Any chance he's hurt? Hasn't looked the same since end of reg season in April.

I wonder what Bob will try to stop the bleeding? Ortio possibly in next game? Also will be interesting to see how Treliving handles his team coming out of the gates so poorly. Everything went right last season so this season we may see how he handles things when they are going very bad. Will be kind of interesting to see how this organization handles the disappointment. I really hope there's no knee jerk stuff as the team is still in the rebuilding process and success coming early shouldn't change that.

I don't know if it's actually having an effect but get rid of the 3 goalies, Hartely has vocally said that he hates it. Just roll with two goalies at this point even if it isn't the two best goalies

Treliving really needs to hold off on extension talks.

Including the preseason, that's 0-3 against the Oilers, with a -7 goal differential. No way around it, we suck even worse than they do right now. Anybody who wanted the BoA back has surely gotten their wish.
What worries me is the talk about "60 minute effort". That to me isn't very constructive thinking. Reminds me too much of the Brent Sutter days of trying to bash square pegs into round holes.
I've never been crazy about the whole "we just need to play a full 60 minute game" idea. That pretty much never happens. If you can't play "your game" consistently enough to win, that's just not likely to change unless you change the team or the system.
Also, the goalie situation is looking like a serious distraction. Treliving needs to accept his mistake and get rid of a goalie.

It's amazing how just seeing Johnny in a post game interview, despite that horrid loss, can still bring me joy.

Could someone explain why it feels so hard for the Flames to gain the zone entry on powerplays to get set up while other teams just casually skate the puck in? Does it have to do with the system the Flames play for their PK or something? Serious question as I don't have the most knowledgeable hockey background (only been watching for a few years, never played)

A fairly embarassing affair being heckled out of the Dome by Oiler fans on a primo night by freshly minted Connor McDavid.
Please Flames, right this ship.

For the record I also expect the Ducks to do a "surprise" crash this season. To me they're worse on paper and had a ridiculous number of points compared to their goal differential, which implies that their points total that was inflated by pure luck.
Plus the west is just super-competitive again.
