I appreciated what I assume was an ironic cheer for the final minute of gameplay by the crowd. What a craptastic display of ice based stickpuck

Well everybody, I will not be on CP until the next time the Flames get a win (which looking at the schedule could be in a very long time from now) - simply because this board will be unbearable and welp, I need to collect my thoughts. And feel gross and yucky about the way our boys have performed. Being on this board is gonna magnify some gross feelings and I will not have it.

Go Flames go. Get it together!

Well, look on the bright side. It was a good Oilers team that forced the Flames to get better in the 80s, ultimately leading to a cup in 89. So if the Oilers are getting better, it just means the Flames are going to get better too.

Ideally, they will get better quickly because I can't watch much more of that.

This team is pure garbage. If Ortio isn't starting the next game, I'm done for a while. Can't be arsed to get up 3am+ every night they play to watch this garbage.

we lost to the Oilers, does that mean we're bottom-feeders?

Wow - that was.....tiring.

Weak shots from 45' out, bad passing, bad defence, no offence, disorganized to beat the band.

Hamilton needs to sit and watch for a game. Completely unimpressed.

When Jones and Backs are best on the ice, the rest of the team needs to take stock of themselves. Dunno what was going on with Monny, Johnny and Huds, but they looked completely out of synch.

Gonna take a while with Gio I think. Can't fault him for that - but the others are just not playing together at all.

Just...awful. Ugh. Not happy in the slightest right now.

Dougie Hamilton has been a massive disappointment so far. Maybe that's unfair? I think he probably needs to have his role reduced so that he can adapt, but that's difficult with Brodie on the sidelines.

Gio took a huge step forward against Winnipeg, and then stepped right back tonight. Willing to give the Captain a bit of time to find his stride.

Ferland made himself known tonight...for 20 minutes. Expected so much more from him, especially after the Vancouver series. He has such an opportunity to be "that guy" for the Flames. Hope he grabs it.

Monahan is a bit off. Not sure what to make of that. Hudler has been average to solid depending on the night. Not too worried about either of these guys, but I hope they find it out soon.

On to the positive:

Russell has and continues to be a revelation. The most consistent defensemen through 5 games. His intensity and determination are incredible, but I've also seen some skill so far that I didn't think he had. A true leader through and through, and totally deserves that 'A' on his chest.

Gaudreau: What can I say? This guy is for real. Tonight was off (in line with the rest of the team), but in all he has been the Flames best player bar none. Electrifying, always makes something happen. Superstar already, and only ever seems to only get better. Still can't get over that he's a 4th rounder.

I hope we see Joni Ortio in net to start next. Ramo and Hiller have been great for stretches, but the hiccups and bad goals need to stop. No excuse, period.

It's only 5 games in, but losing to the Oilers just hurts so much more for so many reasons. Raised expectations after last season might be Calgary's greatest downfall.

I've been a fan of this team for 25 years and I have literally never been so pissed off. #### the Edmonton Oilers and their 37 first overall picks.

Horrendous game. Take a look in the mirror, Flames.

Looking like a Matthews contender.

Yeah, Matthews contender like those 0-3-1 Ducks.

Relax people. Phoenix also looks great to start, give it 15 games before you start making final standings predictions.

The bitching about commentating is getting really old around here.

"We are losing, and the commentators aren't even singing our praises!?!"

We suck, and we should be getting #### talked by the commentators for having to call such a one sided game. I'm supremely dissapointed in Hamilton, looks like absolute garbage so far.
