Agreed with posters above who said any arguments against Uber will fall on deaf ears for me.
Used Uber extensively during my trip to Phoenix recently and it was the bomb. During non peak hours, it was ridiculously cheaper than taking a taxi, and more often than not you were in a much nicer ride.
Excited to see Uber get going here.

Can't wait to order an Uber to the airport. F Associated. Teach them to take 12 days to post credit card transactions.....

I have never had a problem with cabs and i have set taxi contacts. My only issue would the high cost, its become way too expensive. Is Uber indeed cheaper? price would be my only reason to try Uber. A ride from willow park to the airport is now around 60 including tip.

Im just excited about the system, no more cabbies telling me the system just went down and they can only take cash.

Good.
I hope this brings the utterly corrupt Taxi commission or whatever it's called to their knees. And I am laughing so hard that those cab plates probably just went from being worth 100k a piece, to probably a couple grand.
That cab business is utterly slimey, and deserves this.

Here is the fare estimator, 12-16$ to get from the dome to my place. Usually a 25/35$ fare with cabs.

It will be interesting to see if Uber drivers will be able to pick up rides from the airport without the airport authority cracking down on them. Associated had an exclusive contract with the airport for the taxi lanes. I don't see how they'll be able to stop it, the airport was able to do that because taxis are easily identifiable and they own the taxi lanes. Uber with their app flips this on its head.
Edit: yeah a $1500 fine could stop it!

Vehicle inspections? Driver background checks?
Let's see both of those implemented regularly on the taxis first there City Officials.

They also don't have a way setup to collect GST. It is the driver's responsibility to remit it. How many do you think do that, or are even aware of it? The reason Uber is cheaper is becuase they are breaking all sorts of laws.

But this is a similar thing to those that rent out their place on AirBNB?
Supposely Uber is suppose to cover liability in case of accident to up to 5million dollars.

lol, such poor excuses that are easily worked around. All I read is "some people high up within the taxi world and some people high up within the city are tied at the knees and must threaten such a service instead of working with them"

At this point Uber knows their breaking the law, gotta imagine they are ready/willing to pony up those $1500 driver fines while this plays out. Their past "free rides/ice cream/donut" promotions have proved their willing to spend money to get into this market.

Just looked it up, Uber takes anywhere from 20-30% of the fare as their cut. After Taxes, Vehicle costs and Insurance it doesn't leave the drivers with much for their time.

LOL, that is laughable. I have been in cabs that are not only road hazards, they are borderline bio hazards in this city.
I am sure the taxi association or whatever is preparing a giant bribe to try and run Uber out of town. For the record, I think Uber is a horrible, unethical company, so it's only fitting they are the ones to take on a croup of horrible unethical companies.

$23-$30 for a trip from my place to the airport. Typically that would run me $45+. Heck, I will probably start using it.

I'm tempted to drive an uber during the winter/summer festivals in chestermere. There is maybe 1 cab in town. Would be nice to have a cheap cab to get home after the pub too.
