It's even worse than you thought. Ovechkin has only played one game, and McDaigle has played 3. He is 3 times as good as Ovechkin.

3 times as good? So if McDavid doesnt score 195 goals in a season hes a bust.

He doesn't actually have to score them, you know. He just has to be so amazingly amazing that the media give him credit for the goals he could have scored but didn't. Which, as we know, is happening already.

8:30 AM? Doesn't the body have an internal clock that wakes you up around the same time? Well mine does. I can't imagine being late for work because of an alarm clock issue. My body knows when it's time to get up especially when it has been routine for so long. I don't buy the alarm clock excuse. The only reason he wouldn't have woken up is because he was out past he was supposed to which again isn't an alarm clock problem. You have a job, you get there on time, no excuse is valid unless a meteor fell on your car. And even then you could call a taxi. No excuse Ovechkin, man up and take responsibility. And seriously isn't 8:30 AM a little too late to be waking up?

Bro, why are you so angry? Did Ovechkin do something to you? He's human. It happens.

Hockey players don't have a 9-5 schedule.

Damn the AM/PM issue! Ovechkin should know the only fool proof way to prevent this is to set your clock to 24 hour time.
Also, count me in the group that is jealous a hockey player only has to get up at 8:30.

I'm guessing you travel a lot as well right? And that doesn't ever mess with your internal clock right?
Way to assume everybody lives exactly the way you do lol

Either way, they played Saturday at home then again at home on Tuesday. That doesn't scream commitment to me. If you need an alarm clock to wake you up at 8:30 AM you're doing something wrong.

lol wow. The guy has been in the league for a decade, missed only 27 games in his whole career, is team captain and has never been scratched for missing practice until now and you say he isn't commited?
Not every one is a perfect snowflake that can wake up on time without an alarm

You have no idea what it is like to work any sort of shift work. Or to travel apparently. Not everybody is in the routine of getting up at 7 or 6 or whatever it is that you evidently do.

I need an alarm clock to wake me up at 10am. Frankly, working nights I need an alarm clock to wake up at 4pm. And I need 3 alarms to wake up at 4am. It has nothing to do with "commitment level", and I fail to see how that means I'm "doing something wrong"
As already pointed out, unless you're in bed and awake at virtually the same time every day, that "internal alarm clock" just doesn't happen. Throw in late night flights, travel, time zone changes, and guess what: your circadian rhythms just don't reset in 2 days.

I won't pile onto calgaryblood at this point, but yeah not everyone's lifestyle or internal clock is the same.
A guy who would easily have had 550 goals before his 30th birthday if it wasn't for lockouts and who has only missed a handful of games in his 10 year career is hardly a candidate for "lack of commitment". He's also a captain.
It'll be fascinating to watch him reach milestone after milestone in goal scoring achievements over the next several years. Darn shame about the 2005 and 2013 lockouts. Darn shame.

Agreed. He doesn't get as much credit as he deserves, probably because of his passport
Make no mistake the guy is a legend of our generation.

Internal clocks depend on a daily routine. I'm not sure if NHL players can be said to have one with their travel, but at the very least, their work day doesn't start until much later than most folks, especially on practice days, and it ends much later on travel days.

I firmly believe that part. So many times over the past decade I got the impression people were just nitpicking or even fabricating holes in his game so they could criticize him, and I think it has to do with the Russian factor. I think a lot of people were butt hurt that the good ol Canadian kid lost the Calder to a "cherry picking Russian", and they resented him for it for the next 10 years.
I did NOT like Crosby for his first 3 years in the league. Nothing but a whiny entitled little b####. But the beauty of Crosby is he was able to identify areas he needed to work on (i.e.: whining) and fixed it promptly. Probably the sole reason when it came time to pick your favorite between Sid & Ovi I picked Ovi 10 years ago. Nowadays I simply enjoy watching the 2 premier players of the NHL go at it... (and I'm thankful AF they don't play in the West )

Does your daily work time involve you showing up at different times during the day and sleeping for 3 hours in the afternoon to get back to work for 4:30 in the afternoon? It was a mistake. He set his alarm wrong. It happens.

If he says he set his alarm clock wrong why can't you take it at that? Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. No need to play Matlock.

You've never been late due to an unforseen circumstance? When you arrived did your boss fire you instantly because there is no excuse for being late, robot?

He did; he took the benching and didn't make a huge deal out of it in the media.

You and Ovechkin don't work the same job. 8:30 AM is perfectly acceptable when you may be working until 10:30 or 11 pm the night before.
