Default WTB: Microsoft Windows 10 or 8

Basically trying to figure out how to get a copy of Windows 10 legit and for cheap.

Going to build a computer soon and would like to delve into the world of Windows 10 and don't want to pay full retail.

Buy a used Windows 7 license off ebay. I think I paid about $30 for one. Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 is free.

Perhaps take a pic of a windows 7 or 8 license for computers at Bestbuy or Staples to be recycled instead? Download the ISO from the microsoft website and burn a CD.

Also consider making windows media tool thumb drive and upgrade right off a fresh install rather than spend 47 hours installing updates to get to the windows 10 one?

I tried this but you can't do a clean install with a Windows 7 key.

You also don't need to do all the updates. There's a standalone "Windows 10 upgrade" app you can download immediately after installing Win7.

Once you're upgraded and activated in Windows 10, you can do a clean install. MS takes a hardware signature or something that lets you re-install Win10.

I meant installing windows 7 and using the media key on the fresh install rather than installing a ton of updates on a fresh install of 7 before upgrading to 10. I wasn't trying to say to try clean installing windows 10 with the windows 7 key. Sorry, bad wording.
