I think my favorite was the Ranger. 2.9l V6 4x4 5 speed, extended cab and a 2 or 3 inch lift. One day I lent it to my buddy so he could go buy a christmas tree and he crashed it. F'n guy.

The problem with the V8 Monzas was that Chevy didn't upgrade anything else as far as I know. That is, you'd have the small block V8 but Vega 4 cyl parts everywhere else on the car. My college friend put a TH350 tranny in his and when he stomped it, he was gone.

Super short list.

2005 Pontiac G6. Surprisingly good car for under 10k.

2012 Chrysler 200 lx. Amazing fuel mileage and actually pretty spry.

2008 Dodge Avenger. Not bad. Couldn't keep it, world collapsed in on me.

1985 Plymouth Turismo
1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Station Wagon
1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
1990 Plymouth Bonneville
1992 Toyota Camry
2006 Acura RSX (current)

A list of very hard to kill cars. Excepting possibly the Bonneville. That may have been all luck.
Most fun to drive, the Turismo. Probably still on the road somewhere, the Camry. Most able to take a severe beating, the station wagon. I wish someone would come out and make a legitimate station wagon instead of the crossovers. Has volvo even stopped producing them?

1990 GMC 1500- inherited from my grandfather, loved that truck. I donated it to a cancer society when I decoded I wanted something better and newer
2006 GMC sierra ext. Cab-Drove it till I ran a stop sign and wrote it off. Still regret that. Beautiful truck, deep red with lots of chrome.
2007 GMC sierra crew cab- (current driver)

Other than minor oil consumption issues with 3.7L engine (well known in TL forums), it's a blast to drive. I prefer the look of post-beak refreshed model years (2012-2014). AWD is nice to have in winter (never got stuck with winter tires) and SH component puts me to smile each time when cornering hard in other 3 seasons. Getting around 10L/100km in 40% city/60% hwy driving so it's decent. 305HP is enough for my need.

I do most of maintenance DIY and it's typical Honda easy and reliable after almost four years. No major repairs other than wear and tear stuff. Changed OEM battery and I usually do two oil changes/year following MID. Good luck in your search.

2005 civic-bought brand new when I had no bills, no house, no kids. Ran her until 400 000k and it still driven around by family.

2004 Mazda- actually my girlfriends car, but now married so I'll include it. The powertrain was good but body started rusting in 2008 and various other issues

2010 equinox- me and the wife teamed up and got this in anticipation of kids coming up. Kept it until 100k but it was in the shop so much times i got frustrated and traded it it

2011 crv- our current mommy mobile. So far been flawless in 95k

2007 civic- this was to replace my other 05 civic. So far it has been great currently at 172k

Next car- I'm thinking either crew can truck or larger suv. I would include a minivan but I'm looking at travel trailers in the 3-5 year range so I want something capable.

Currently driving 97 bmw m3, but it's in unbelievable condition, and we rebuilt the engine, had the transmission retooled, and replaced the terrible stock cooling system.

1986 Hyundai Stellar - awful, awful car.
1990 Mercury Topaz - motor was ####, but the body was pretty good on it.
1995 Toyota Camry - still miss this car. That v6 purred like a kitten. Over 200,000km on it when I got rid of it, still could barely hear it idling.
2006 Nissan X trail - I've got 215,000 km on this one, it's been a great vehicle. My first new one.
2004 Nissan Armada - got it to pull my trailer. It's a beast, but very comfortable.

I really need to get something "fun" to add to this list.

Some of the years are probably wrong and I may have missed some, but here goes:

Phase 1: (Post High School - young, single and no sense of money)
1973 Olds Omega
1979 Datsun 200SX
1981 Datsun King Cab pickup
1982 Ford Mustang GT
1984 Kawasaki GPZ550
1986 Nissan King Cab pickup

Phase 2 (University - not quite as young, still single but a lot less money)
1980 Honda Civic
1979 Toyota Pickup
1969 VW Van
1985 Nissan pickup

Phase 3 (Graduated, met future wife and cohabitated, shared vehicles)
1985 Mazda GLC
1989 Crysler Voyager
1990 Dodge Caravan
1994 Mercury Topaz
1998 Chevrolet Astrovan
1993 Ford F150
1976 Kawasaki KZ400
2001 Ford Taurus
2000 Ford F150
2003 Ford F150
2007 Ford Escape

Phase 4 (Current Vehicles)
2003 Suzuki GZ250
2006 Suzuki C50T
2007 Kawasaki Ninja 500
2011 Nissan Juke
2013 Mazda MX-5
2014 Ford F150

Phase 5 (the future)
I want to get a under-powered little used compact with a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission. Frankly, those were the most fun to drive vehicles that I have owned. And a Touring motorbike.

Agreed, "slow car fast" is way more fun than "fast car slow". Some of the most fun driving I've had was in a Mazda Protege 5. Not a lot of power so you were always just hammering the thing. It was like driving a go-cart. Great fun.
