CP Federal Election Poll #1

I thought it might be neat for us to do a little polling of our own for the next few weeks to see how close our numbers match the real pollsters. So what I'm going to do is put up a new poll every Friday and try to track how the numbers are changing if they do. I'm also a little curious to see how the undecideds break down, because I don't think the real pollsters have done a good job of finding out if they're true undecideds or ABC voters who are sitting on the fence, so I'm adding a bit of an odd option to the end.

Mods, could I please get a poll with the following options:

Conservative
Liberal
NDP
Green
Other
Undecided - would consider Conservatives
Undecided - would not consider Conservatives

rube why do all your posts suggest it's the ndp/liberals vs the conservatives. As a liberal supporter i want nothing to do with the NDP. If anything in a minority situation i'd rather the liberals work with the conservatives then the NDP.

I'm not suggesting that at all. I'm not voting NDP either, but I know a bunch of people who are ABC.

Why not change that last option to:
Undecided - would consider Conservatives
Undecided - would consider Liberals
Undecided - would consider NDP
Undecided - would consider Green

I waffled a long time but I am going CPC again. Just have to plug my nose.

Btw, I will vote Liberal (I think) - simply to help block another NDP candidate.

A blend of Liberal and CPC policies would be ideal party...
Minimal taxes, make up the revenue by legalizing dope and spend the excess on schools/infrastructure... (guess you could say thats a (wait for it).... "pipe" dream! )

Just my opinion but I wouldn't complicate it by including undecideds. Just make it simple...

That should be the Liberal Party. Martin was a fiscally conservative Liberal and even though Chretien and Martin did not agree all the time, they made the balance work for a while.

But at least on stage, the Liberals seem to have shifted more left these days. I think once in office, they would probably shift back.

I think a CPC and LPC government with either one being the opposition could work together yet still challenge each other. CPC and NDP would be nothing but a bloodbath. LPC and NDP would probably not challenge each other enough and would sell out just to avoid an election.

Yeah, I thought of that but didn't want to make the poll too long. The reason I did it this way is because recent polls are showing that the NDP and Liberals are the second choice for the majority of NDP and Liberal voters, whereas the majority of Conservative voters don't have a second choice.

I was beginning to lean Liberal, as I had read that Trudeau was not going to increase taxes, and I'm absolutely on board with legalizing marijuana. Read this gem yesterday on CTV though:

"Trudeau says Liberals will tax the rich to increase services, help middle class and those who need help the most"

For whoever is wondering, no, I am not a wealthy business owner. I just cannot stand this way of thinking, and hate how Trudeau/Mulcair try to make middle class citizens believe they're in trouble.

Harper wants you to believe you're life is in danger
Trudeau/Mulcair want the middle class to believe they're poor

I already voted in advance for the conservatives. I chose them because I am saving for a house and I want to keep the TFSA at 10,000 a year and I don't want my income taxes increased

Thanks for setting up the poll rubecube! For the record I didn't have an issue with your poll options and context. Basically it's anyone except the government in power, whether it's the CPC, Liberals, NDP, Greens, Blues, Communists, or Martian Orangutans. It was pretty clear.

Can't on good conscious vote for our current government, they make what appear to be ideological decisions with no logic or reason.

Between the 'can't in good conscience vote for current government' and the 'not foolish enough to vote NDP' factions, the LPC should be clear beneficiaries - and it looks like it shows

Well except we do need more revenue for some of the programs Trudeau and Mulcair have been proposing. Trudeau's approach of higher personal income tax for the wealthy is considered the better approach by most economists than Mulcair's approach of taxing corporations.

EDIT: Also, and this goes for me as well, let's try to keep the policy debates to the main election thread.

A Calgary based message board with a poll showing the Liberals and Conservatives neck-and-neck is pretty stunning even if it isn't a valid polling method. Shows how much things have changed over time.

I'll be voting CPC in my riding, though were I in Hehr's riding I'd vote for him, Crockat is a weak MP IMHO. Deciding between Harper and Trudeau is nearly a toss-up for me, neither should be PM. I like Mulcair for some very odd reason, but I would never vote NDP even though their platform appears to be trying to move to the right.
