Kanzig is most definitely in great shape (FWIW he had the lowest body fat % on the team), but I mean it's a mountain climb. A 6'7" giant could out mountain climb anyone regardless of their shape.

If Kanzig doesn't make it as an NHLer, he should try another sport. Football maybe?

Bummed to hear Porier is struggling so far. I really hope he gets it together and builds on that solid AHL season. It still super early but he is eerily reminding me of the dark days of our prospects where they'd have decent potential but never reach it. I have no reasoning or evidence to support my hunch, just a gut feeling. I hope I'm wrong!

Are you sure you know what a mountain climb is? It tests speed and endurance...being 6'7 has nothing to do with it

Stride length might help a bit, but certainly more to due with endurance and speed.

For those who don't know mount climbers are basically wind sprints:
-Icing line to close blue line back to icing line
-Icing line to red line back to icing line
-Icing line to far blue line back to icing line
-Icing line to icing line back to icing line

Need to see a video clip before I believe that Kanzig beat TJ in a drill involving multiple stop/accelerate sequences.

TJ probably stopped to tie his skate up in the middle of the heat.

Final year of his deal, maybe he comes up with a big season. He will need a big season or he's pretty much a PTO candidate next season. Staying healthy would help a lot as well, but that's unlikely.

So many guys that can play up and down the lineup and so many intriguing line combos. Great balance of skill speed and toughness through the F lineup and D looking tops in the league.

This is the most excited I've been prior to a season...I think ever.

It has something to do with it when you put two guys who both have insane endurance and conditioning. That extra leg span makes a big deal when you are going uphill or downhill on dirt. As someone who is 6'4" myself, I can say my leg-span helps compensate for my crappy stamina when hiking or playing sports in general.

And just to be clear, I'm not trying to discredit what Kanzig did or his athletic abilities.

Kanzig won it by a mile as well, Brodie had just crossed the blue line when Kanzig finished and Brodie was 3rd. The other guy was in the face off circle. It was not even remotely close.

Had no idea kanzig had that kind of skating speed and agility. Brodie's not a super speedster but his agility is top end. Impressive.

It's not literally a climb up a mountain it's a hockey drill (one of the most dreaded) involving a lot of back and forth skating and stopping. Hamilton won yesterday

In reality these are your starters, unless trades or burying contracts. Still nice looking 4 lines and great looking defence with 'ok' goaltending. I really love Ferland on the 1st line to add size and strength. Colborne does the same, with a different skill set of course, on the 'second line' and that leaves a killer third/shut down line! Fourth line will change based on team, but would expect Raymond to get more time than Jooris or Bollig... And Byron needs to fit in somewhere as well.

Realistically, I expect some trades to occur, but not sure what to expect.

Monahan did it last year at 20 so not sure why you are so absolutely certain in your opinion. Bennett is likely to engage more physically and be considered grittier than Monahan. Just not sure why you would say that would be such a soft line?

Bennett was great with Hudler. Arnold was very good as was Jooris. Gaudreau was good as usual. Monahan hasn't been quite as noticeable. Colborne and Jones look very good, and fast. Hamilton is awesome. If there's anyone else that you'd like to know about, let me know.

On a worrying note, Gio's shot is not good at all. He might be 100%, but that shot is not, at least during the camp thus far. No strength on it and his wrister is limp compared to what it was.

My thoughts are we may see some NHL quality players demoted to the AHL and not just with us but league wide if the number of players on PTOs is a sign. This will cause fallout to some of our decent prospects going down to the ECHL.
